This role is open to being 100% remote within US or Canada 

Who You'll Be Joining

This role will report to the Senior Manager, Payroll at Generac (parent company to ecobee) and take a team approach in managing our tax process.

We are looking for someone who can and enjoys working cross-functionally as you’ll work closely alongside the payroll and corporate tax team at Generac for all our employee groups, as well as HR and Finance to review and recommend improvements to streamline processes and increase efficiencies.

How You'll Make an Impact

As our Payroll Tax Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring payroll tax compliance and registration across all 45 states where Generac and ecobee operate.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring taxes across our employee base, including tracking current employees' movement to various work locations and ensuring state registration for new employees as necessary.

  • Collaborating closely with the corporate tax team to proactively mitigate tax exposure and ensure full compliance. This involves reviewing tax notices, conducting thorough research, resolving applicable cases, and initiating cases with tax services for resolution.

  • Acting as the liaison between the Corporate Tax and HRBP teams, providing expertise and support to address employee-related tax filing inquiries.

  • Playing a key role in the upcoming update of our HR/payroll system, contributing to a smooth transition alongside other team members.

  • Generating quarterly and annual reports to identify potential errors and issues in filings, conducting cost-benefit analyses for expansion into new states, and preparing for year-end reporting to facilitate a seamless year-end closeout. This includes the preparation and finalization of W2/T4 forms by legislated deadlines.

What You'll Bring to the Table

  • 5+ years US tax and payroll experience (Canadian and UK would be a plus!)

  • You have exposure to various payroll platforms and a demonstrated knowledge of systems set-up (e.g. Peoplesoft, SAP, ADP WF Now, Ceridian, UKG and Workday to name a few)

  • Tax systems: You will be using OSV Tax Services and the BSI Tax Connector in Workday

  • You pride yourself on having strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to take initiative and build strong relationships

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • You always challenge yourself to improve upon the status quo

  • You are eager to be the best at your craft and are always looking for new learning opportunities

  • You exercise full discretion and confidentiality in an ethical and professional manner

  • You have or are pursuing the FPC or CPP designation

  • Just so you know: The hired candidate will be required to complete a background & credit check

Interview Process:   

  • Round 1: 30-minute phone call with ecobee’s Director of Recruitment.

  • Round 2: 30-minute interview with ecobee’s Director of Human Resources

  • Round 3:  45-minute video interview with the Sr. Manager of Payroll at Generac

  • Round 4: The final Interview is a video conversation with two other members of the Generac payroll team.
