Video Editor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Video Editor to join our exceptional design team. As a lead Video Editor, you will be responsible for assembling recorded film and video footage, applying creative editing techniques, and producing final projects that align seamlessly with the vision set by our Art Director.

Your success in this role relies on several key factors: your proficiency with modern video editing techniques, your storytelling prowess, your capacity to visualize directorial concepts, and your ability to adhere to deadlines. Ultimately, we're seeking a top-tier Video Editor who can translate the Art Director's vision into meticulously crafted story-telling pieces that are engaging and connect with our audiences.

This position is contingent on donor funding.

Accountabilities:

  • Meeting with the Art Director to determine production vision.

  • Reviewing raw footage to determine a shot list that best aligns to the narrative and resonates with our audiences.

  • Manipulating film and video footage using modern editing techniques.

  • Maintaining continuity while moving shots according to scene value.

  • Trimming footage and putting together the rough cuts.

  • Inserting dialogue, sound effects, music, graphics, and special effects that align with art direction and brand guidelines.

  • Collaborating with the team to ensure consistency of designs across various media.

  • Ensuring the project follows a logical sequence.

  • Consulting with the Art Director and production team throughout the project.

  • Creating rough cuts and delivering the final cut for digital dissemination.

  • Making revisions (often quick turnaround) to incorporate client feedback

  • Generating follow-on products (alternate cuts, shorter versions, etc.)

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must have a robust background in design and demonstrate a keen eye for composition, layout, typography, and a mastery of storytelling techniques.

  • Must have a strong concept-driven and technical portfolio.

  • Must be organized and able to multitask and prioritize projects based on feedback and content deadlines.

  • Maintain best practices throughout the media workflow, encompassing preparation, production, post-production, and archiving.

  • A well-rounded blend of conceptualization and production skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software products (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro X, Illustrator, Photoshop and, Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel). Avid Media Composer and Lightworks a plus.

  • Demonstrated capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.

  • Ability to nurture client relationships.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Thrives in a diverse, fast-paced collaborative environment, exhibiting superb time management abilities.

  • Section 508-compliance coding knowledge, an advantage.

  • Familiarity with web design, HTML, illustration, motion graphics, and video production, an advantage.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

Problem Solving & Impact:

  • Works on problems that are diverse in scope and require judgment in resolving or making recommendations for solutions.

  • Respond to client feedback in a timely and professional manner.

  • Exercises judgment within defined policies and procedures to obtain solutions to perform duties.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Serves as a mentor or lead to less experienced staff.

  • Reports to an Associate Art Director or Creative Director.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or international in film studies, cinematography, or related field.

  • Previous work experience as a video editor.

  • Background in Health Communications is a plus

Experience:

  • Typically requires a minimum 5–8 years professional experience in video editing.

  • Must have a professional reel or samples of relevant work

  • Hands-on experience with editing software, including Adobe After Effects, Creative and artistic skills.

  • Experience taking projects from assembly through final delivery.

  • Experience meeting daily and weekly content delivery deadlines.

  • Familiarity with 3D composition and special effects.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.

  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used:

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10%

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget. 

 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $70,000 - $96,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
