Senior Financial Analyst, Strategic Finance - R&D

About the Opportunity:

Netlify is growing its Strategic Finance team to supporting the growing needs of its rapidly expanding R&D organization. This is a business partnership role that will focus on supporting Engineering and Product; helping forecast revenue and cost impact of new products, create frameworks to assess ROI of new and existing products, lead the development of staffing models for R&D, manage our cloud expense forecasts and working with senior leadership on budget management and tracking.

This is a high impact role, with deliverables used by senior leadership, our board of directors and prospective investors to drive financial and investment decisions.

What is my role?

  • Partner with Engineering and Product Leadership to develop cost analysis frameworks for new and existing products

  • Lead development of pricing frameworks for new products

  • Drive monthly/quarterly forecasts for R&D expenses, including our cloud infrastructure costs

  • Develop and implement ROI metrics for new and existing products

  • Develop public company benchmarks to analyze R&D and cloud spend

  • Work closely with R&D leadership to manage headcount and program budgets

  • Develop budget tracking reports for department leadership

What You'll Bring:

  • 4+ years of experience with a mix of consulting, investment banking and PE/VC and high-growth SaaS experience

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial modeling

  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail

  • Advanced MS Excel/Google Sheets skills and experience working with large datasets

  • Strong critical thinking skills and a problem solving mindset

  • Ability to developing financial frameworks to answer abstract business questions

  • Strong initiative, intellectual curiosity and attention to detail

  • A mind for process development and process automation

  • SQL experience a plus

  • Prior experience supporting R&D

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA

Within 1 month, you'll:

  • Meet the finance team and business partners, and become deeply familiar with Netlify's service and revenue model!

  • Become familiar with our product road map and meet with product managers leading development of new products

  • Dive deep into Netlify's financial model and learn about our reporting cadence and process

  • Become familiar with the various software systems used by Netlify (e.g., payroll, customer billing, expense management, sales reporting, headcount management) and flow of information across these systems

  • Become familiar with our cloud expense model and key expense drivers

Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Work closely with our product team to develop a scalable frameworks to assess revenue and cost impacts of new products

  • Kick off development of the product ROI frameworks and cost efficiency KPIs

  • Create a scalable process to update department budgets for monthly review with R&D leadership and start leading budget review meetings

  • Develop a staffing model for our engineering pod structure

  • Take ownership of our cloud expense forecasting model

Within 6 months, you'll:

  • Proudly reflect on all the great work you have done this far!

  • Implement revenue and cost assessment frameworks of new products and integrate the results into Netlify's operating model

  • Create process to track actual versus projected results of product launches

  • Lead product ROI analysis and create a repeatable process to measure changes in product ROI

  • Other projects as they come up, lots of opportunity to take ownership of various processes
