
Senior User Experience Researcher

Sauce Labs is looking for a highly motivated Sr. UX Researcher with experience researching technical users such as developers and their managers to join our product team. Our customers are some of the world’s most well-known brands, creating software and services for millions of users.
THE ROLE:
This role is a part of a re-formed product design organization. It is a perfect opportunity for a creative person looking to have an impact as we embrace new methods for product discovery and innovation. In this role, you will be working closely with product managers and designers who will rely on you to define research plans and coach them through the process of running interviews and studies themselves as well as running your own research.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop a deep understanding of the capabilities our platform offers
Understand our current users and potential future users by identifying their motivations, needs, expectations, and goals with frameworks such as Jobs To Be Done (or job mapping)
Proactively identify high-impact questions from a product or business perspective and work with product teams to priorities these areas for user research
Select appropriate methods to turn open questions into formal research plans for your own studies as well as for PM’s and designers who request research studies
Collect and analyze data through a wide array of qualitative and quantitative UX research methods including, but not limited to: moderated and unmoderated usability studies, guerilla studies, surveys, competitive analyses, in-depth user interviews, task analysis, card sorting, diary studies, and live A/B testing
Translate research findings into impactful and actionable insights and recommendations in collaboration with the product team
Maintain and grow our UX Research Recruitment Database
Generate demand and interest in user research: come up with creative ideas for sharing the research findings broadly within the company on multiple channels and on a regular basis
Work with vendors to recruiting the “right” users to participate in UX research studies
REQUIREMENTS:
Our users are mostly highly technical: developers, engineering managers, product managers and testers who build web and mobile applications. A key requirement of this role is the desire to work with this demographic and help them to be more successful.
At least 5 years of hands-on experience in computer user research, software product design, or a related field
Degree in Human Factors, HCI/CS, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, Humanities or a related field
A deep understanding of the user-centered design process
Previous work experience researching the developer persona, the DevOps toolchain, or the continuous integration / continuous development (CI/CD) process
Experience with end-to-end research projects; from defining goals and objectives, developing scripts or interview guides, conducting research, analyzing and synthesizing results, and sharing insights with stakeholders
Well versed in both qualitative and quantitative research methods – along with the knowledge of when and why to apply them
Experience with extracting data from analytic tools such as Mixpanel, Pendo, Domo, or Amplitude and sharing the insights with others
Excellent presentation skills and storytelling abilities – ability to make your research findings easy to digest as well as articulate your thoughts clearly
Advanced skills with spreadsheets and databases. You will be asked to walk us through examples of your files.
The ability and willingness to coach other product team members to conduct their own research in support of our continuous discovery process

Writer/storyteller
Experience working at a Product-led growth organization
Experience with conducting research in a fast-pace/Agile environment
Advanced degree in Human Factors, HCI/CS, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or a related field
Past experience coaching people how to do effective interviews
Experience with communication design or instructional design
