The Role
Own UI/UX design end-to-end for our web and mobile platforms. You'll take product specs and deliver high-quality, production-ready designs - autonomous execution, not hand-holding.
Responsibilities:
Design player progression, education, social, and competitive features
Build and evolve our design system as the product scales
Collaborate with product and engineering (weekly syncs, daily async)
Deliver high-polish mocks that engineers can asynchronously implement
Guide implementation during development
Iterate based on analytics and user feedback
Our design principles:
"Lowest friction" UX - minimize clicks and cognitive load
Calm, sophisticated aesthetic (not casino/flashy)
Trust through clarity - predictable systems, no dark patterns
Accessible for casuals, deep for competitive players
What We're Looking For
Must-haves:
Strong UI/UX craft - high-polish execution with minimal revision needed
Game UI intuition - designed or deeply studied multiplayer/competitive/social game UIs
Mobile-first thinking - touch, responsive, one-handed use (non-negotiable fluency)
Autonomous problem-solver - work from specs/goals without hand-holding
Design systems expertise - reusable components, scalable patterns
Collaborative but independent - tight feedback loops, ships on time
Strong preferences:
Professional game UI/UX experience (mobile strongly preferred)
Social features design (friends, chat, clubs, tournaments)
Analytics fluency (GA4, behavior-driven iteration)
Board/card/strategy game background
Prototyping skills (Figma, Framer)
What Won't Work
Needing extensive art direction or hand-holding
Casino/gambling aesthetic sensibility (we're calm and sophisticated, not flashy)
Designing for your portfolio instead of for users
Requiring formal research processes before every decision
Needing large teams or heavy process
Benefits
100% remote work
Competitive salary
Healthcare
401K Match
Unlimited paid time off
Fun, collaborative culture
Why join us?
Small team, which will increase in size as we scale operations.
Fully remote, and largely asynchronous. We need a self-directed developer comfortable with autonomy, high standards for code quality, and end-to-end ownership.
Weekly synchronous meetings with the full product, development, and design teams, with additional synchronous meetings as necessary.
Backgammon.com asks respectfully to only apply through the application form and not email/apply to them directly. Recruiters and Agencies please do not contact Backgammon.com directly.
