Lead Product Designer - Medical Guidance

Job to be Done

We’re the best way to get better.

About Buoy Health

Buoy is a Boston-based digital health company that uses AI technology to provide personalized clinical support the moment an individual has a health concern. Developed out of the Harvard Innovation Labs by a team of doctors and data scientists, Buoy navigates people through the healthcare system intelligently, delivering triage at scale, and connecting them with the right care endpoints at the right time based on self-reported symptoms.

About the role

As Lead Product Designer on our Medical Guidance team, you will own the design thinking and execution for how Buoy will take in care seeker inputs like symptoms, past medical history and risk factors, insurance coverage, and personal care preferences to translate them into an actionable and highly personalized treatment recommendation. One of Buoy’s greatest differentiators is our ability to recommend at scale by leveraging our machine learning data algorithms; historically we took in users’ symptoms to provide triage recommendation, so we are now looking to evolve this ability to recommend next steps further down the care journey. This role in particular will work very closely with our data scientists, clinicians, and backend engineers to build out the logic and UI by which we provide recommendations.

Given that this is an evolution of our current product at Buoy, there are many unknowns requiring diligent discovery, research, and testing. You should be comfortable with ambiguity—even embrace it. You are endlessly inquisitive and love generating informed hypotheses, then testing and learning from them to arrive at the next best solution. You do all this with the user at the center, deeply understanding their challenges and motivations.

You’ll be an integral partner working closely with exceptional product, engineering, clinical, research leads to build and deliver a seamless user experience, as well as contribute to the team’s strategy and success metrics. Through collaboration with your partners you’ll help set KPIs, hypotheses for how to best execute the strategy, and the tactics best suited to validating those hypotheses. Day-to-day you’ll be part of a high velocity team and ultimately deliver measurable impact to our users, our business, and the healthcare landscape at large.
