R&D Senior Tax Associate

The Role

Join the team to help support the completion of R&D Studies, working closely with the Tax and R&D Teams as well as across departments at Burkland. This is a great role for anyone wanting flexibility, autonomy, and variety.

Your Typical, Atypical, Day

  • Gain a leadership role in a growing department.

  • Communicate with clients to answer questions and set up meetings.

  • Prepare and review work papers, deliverables, and tax forms.

  • Prepare and review R&D calculations and deliver them to clients.

  • Opportunity to grow in the role, becoming a subject matter expert and leading R&D interviews in the future.

  • Working on reports and tax forms in Excel and other tax software.

  • Balance multiple projects and priorities while communicating quickly and effectively with the team.

  • Act as Power of Attorney on behalf of clients in phone meetings with the IRS.

  • Learning and keeping up to date with relevant tax laws.

  • Reviewing financial statements to identify R&D opportunities for clients.

  • Able to talk with clients and colleagues to facilitate understanding of the R&D credit.

  • Communicate with clients via email and Zoom.

  • Continue to grow your knowledge and expertise in the field, helping us to expand our department and service offerings.

About You

  • Demonstrate a strong background and genuine passion for delivering exceptional client services, as this role involves extensive client interaction.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 2 years of R&D Tax Credit experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of overall tax consulting experience.

  • CPA, EA, or in progress.

  • Exposure to Start-up accounting and tax processes.

  • Public accounting experience – highly preferred

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, expert-level Excel, Slack, and the capacity to quickly learn new software.

  • Capacity to juggle competing priorities and deadlines; organized and efficient.

The base pay range target for the role described in this job description is $85,000 – $100,000. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition, full-time regular positions are eligible for, 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-time.
