Lead 3d Artist

ABOUT THE ROLE (THE MISSION, WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS,  THE THING YOU DO OVER AND OVER AGAIN)

  • Collaborate with Game Director, art leads, design, and production to help plan and accomplish the strategic goals of the 3D art team.

  • Deliver excellent translations of designs for characters, environments and objects following the overall game vision with an emphasis on stylization

  • Work closely with Environment and Character teams, joining their design processes and working out the visual problems that arise during production.

  • Produce and lead the development of high-quality 3D game assets utilizing a variety of techniques including hight-to-low poly workflows, hard surface modeling and organic sculpting.

  • Verify the quality of objects in the game, and make improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints, technical performance targets, and artistic direction.

  • Lead a team of 3D artists and be an active motivator in team discussions, critiques, and reviews to ensure timely completion of assets on style and at the desired quality bar.

  • Document and communicate workflow and best practices to support consistency across the art team.

  • Benchmark quality assets efficiently produced, adhering to the overall art direction

  • A well-led team of 3D artists who feel informed, challenged and supported to do their best work.

  • An efficient and scalable modeling and texturing pipeline that can provide a foundation for future games shaped by constructive feedback and implemented solutions.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL (COMPETENCIES)

  • Good understanding of game mechanics related to characters, objects and environments.

  • Experience integrating 3D assets into industry leading game engines such as Unity, Unreal, CryEngine, Lumberyard etc. Unity experience is a desired plus.

  • Excellent knowledge of modeling programs such as 3DSMAX, Maya, Blender, Zbrush and texture/material authoring tools such as Photoshop and Substance. 

  • Attention to detail for both aesthetic and technical quality.

  • Able to effectively collaborate with every department of a game development team (game designers, programmers, tech art, animation, etc.).

  • Commitment to the project and a desire to find the best possible way of inspiring others.

  • Enthusiasm for directing, mentoring, and otherwise elevating the people around you to do their best work.  

  • A natural curiosity and eagerness to learn - we believe this is essential to our ability to stay ahead of the market and value this over years of experience.

  • We expect our leaders to continue being students of their craft and the game spaces they’re working in.  

  • You should be educated on the latest trends and have a strong perspective on how they relate to our current and future projects.
