Technical Artist

ABOUT THE ROLE (THE MISSION, WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS, THE THING YOU DO OVER AND OVER AGAIN) 

  • Assist with the implementation and optimization of art assets in game engines and other software tools.

  • Test and troubleshoot art-related issues.

  • Maintain documentation for art and technical processes.

  • Collaborate with other team members to identify and resolve technical challenges.

  • Collaborate with the art and engineering teams to develop and implement visually stunning shaders that achieve the desired aesthetic for the game.

WHAT YOU’LL ACHIEVE (OUTCOMES VS WHAT PEOPLE WILL DO) 

  • Produce high-quality rigs and animations that meet project deadlines and exceed performance targets.

  • Develop and maintain pipeline tools that increase efficiency and productivity of the art team, resulting in faster turnaround times on assets and levels.

  • Effective communication and collaboration with the art, design, and programming teams. 

  • Assist in the creation of high-quality and optimized VFX assets, collaborate with the team to ensure VFX meet visual and technical standards, and ensure timely delivery of assets for integration into the game.

  • Develop and implement optimization techniques to improve game performance while maintaining visual quality, reducing draw calls, and ensuring efficient use of resources.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL (COMPETENCIES) 

  • Basic knowledge of the Unity game engine and scripting.

  • A foundational knowledge of modeling programs such as 3DSMAX, Maya, Blender, Zbrush and texture/material authoring tools such as Photoshop and Substance.

  • Understanding of game asset creation and optimization for real-time engines.

  • Ability to understand and implement basic game mechanics, such as character animations, particle effects, and lighting.

  • Ability to rig and animate characters and objects to a high standard with a fundamental knowledge of common rigging and animation techniques and tools.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug technical issues.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
