Content Marketing Manager

πŸ‘‹ A little about us

GitBook is a modern documentation platform. Our ambition is to empower technical teams by seamlessly integrating knowledge management into their existing asynchronous workflows.

We're a fully remote team who are building the future of work and you will be joining during a pivotal moment for GitBook. We've enjoyed great success since we were founded, and now we're taking conscious steps to take our company to the next level. That means you will have the opportunity to build, positively impact the trajectory of the company and enjoy the benefits of helping grow our company 20x.

Some things we’re proud of:

πŸ’² Profitable

πŸ’Ό Backed by top partners such as P9 Capital, Notion Capital and Fly VC

πŸ—ΊοΈ Amazing team in over 15 countries across North America, Europe and Asia

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» The role

We’re looking for a natural born storyteller with a knack for connecting with their audience and full funnel marketing experience to build and execute the content strategy for a technical audience. You’ll define the content strategy for our products, working closely across functions to deeply understand our audiences, then develop a full-funnel content plan to reach and inspire them. Your mission is to identify new products, features, and unique capabilities of the GitBook platform to feature in content campaigns.

You are:

  • A writer. You love writing and enjoy the challenge of distilling technical concepts into clear and engaging written materials

  • A storyteller. You have deep empathy for users and are able to adapt how you communicate across channels in order to reach and engage a technical audience

  • Adept at synthesis. You can partner with domain experts across the company to gather insights about our capabilities, the industry, and competitive trends, and distill them into compelling content

  • Organized. You are able to manage highly interdependent, complex projects and keep various workstreams on track

  • A student of technology. You are keen to learn about how things work and are able to explain technical concepts in ways that are accessible to all readers

You will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of GitBook's audiences and product

  • Write content for GTM campaigns (mostly awareness- and consideration-level landing pages, nurture emails, social media posts, related blog posts and/or articles)

  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing to ideate and execute on top of funnel campaigns with organic/viral potential

  • Source, write and review customer case studies, in collaboration with the Customer Support team

  • Guide the development of a product-focused content marketing program including leveraging the right experts within GitBook and beyond to help tell and amplify stories

  • Create a content calendar plan on a quarterly basis for disseminating material like blog posts, whitepapers, research reports, landing pages and more

  • Partner with the Sales and Marketing teams to set goals for content engagement and identify opportunities to amplify our content

  • Create a distribution plan and track content and campaign performance

  • Liaise and manage relationships with any external agencies e.g. SEO, PR

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience in content marketing, writing, editing, journalism, or another relevant field.

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills.

  • Proven experience creating a multi-format, full-funnel content marketing strategy

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment

  • Excellent communication, project management, and stakeholder management skills

  • Familiarity with SEO strategy, technical writing and video editing is a plus.

✨What's next?

First, we will take the time to review your application and we will get back to you within a week, regardless of our decision.

We know that your time is valuable so we work to move the process along quickly and keep it casual. We're not believers in "gotcha" questions or checking for skills you'll never actually use at GitBook.

Here's what our process will look like:

  1. Discovery call with the People team (30 min) to ensure there is a correlation between GitBook's expectations, the role and your own expectations.

  2. Meet with Asha (30min - interim VP of Marketing) to discuss about role specifics such as required skills, knowledge, abilities as well as working environment, day-to-day life

  3. Meet with [Engineering or Data Team] to assess technical knowledge and confidence in presenting to and speaking with this audience (30min - Engineer or Data)

  4. Case Study to assess written and verbal communication, planning and execution on community building and translating technical content to an audience

  5. The last discussion will be around cultural alignment. You will have the opportunity to meet with Sara (COO) to learn more about GitBook history, ambition and culture.

πŸ‘₯ What it's like to work at GitBook

We joke internally that GitBook is the best kept secret. It's not always clear from the outside looking in that we're a great company, with a positive environment and fantastic team. As a People and Talent Manager you'll appreciate that over 90% of our team members report having a positive experience at GitBook. When asked how they describe our culture, this is what came up (in order of how frequently it was mentioned):

  • Supportive, approachable and friendly peers. Everyone is willing to help

  • Flexibility, truly remote company. We can choose when and where we work

  • Transparent. Open communication, feedback is listened to and actioned

  • Safe space. It's ok to fail, we can ask any questions and there's no judement

  • We care about people and treat them fairly

  • Autonomy & trust by default

Of course we can always get better, and there are some things that you might find frustrating:

  • We're still defining what success looks like for each person and this creates some confusion

  • We need to create more opportunities to socialize and connect as people

  • We're working on being more agile and iterating quicker

  • We are (ironically) not great at documentation

The great news is that optimizing our culture is part of what you will help us do. You will see that every single team member is a value addition to our culture, and our company values are very present in our day to day:

  • πŸš€ Ambition (Aim higher)

  • ✊ Ownership (Take control and Own it)

  • πŸ“ˆ Accountability (Be accountable to results)

  • πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Care (Give a sh*t)

  • πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Train (Grow yourself)

  • 🀝 Genuine (Say it and accept it)

  • πŸ‘―β€β™‚οΈ Team player (Leverage the team)

  • πŸ— Architect (Plan & Build)
