Senior Full-Stack Developer for B2B SaaS (LNMP Stack)
We are seeking a full-stack engineer to help us maintain Gymdesk’s web apps, build exciting new features and play an active role in shaping our technology roadmap. We are an AI-forward engineering team: we use AI agents as a core accelerant in how we build, and we are looking for someone who pairs that leverage with strong engineering judgment.
As a full-stack developer you will have command of both back-end and front-end technologies of a LNMP stack (Linux/Nginx/MySQL/PHP) web-app.
About Gymdesk
Gymdesk offers modern, online management software to gyms, martial arts schools, yoga studios, and wellness businesses. In an industry dominated by outdated and cumbersome products, we provide a seamless, intuitive user experience.
Thousands of customers rely on Gymdesk every day to streamline workflows and grow their businesses. We continuously enhance our software based on user feedback and industry research, and our commitment to exceptional customer service is reflected in our 4.8-star rating on Capterra.
About The Job
As a platform developer at Gymdesk, you will be joining our engineering team, working on the product roadmap, infrastructure robustness, and incoming dev tickets. You will work in an AI-assisted development environment: every engineer here uses agentic tooling day-to-day, supported by internal MCP integrations, shared skills, and a growing library of team-maintained context. As a senior, you will also spend time mentoring less experienced members of the team — including helping raise the bar on how the team uses AI effectively.
What does a typical week look like here?
Here are some of the tasks you can expect to work on in a given week:
Building new features and executing on the roadmap informed by customer feedback and company goals
Troubleshooting and fixing bugs
Planning, designing, and implementing a forward-thinking architecture
Writing automated tests
Giving and responding to code reviews
Assisting with backlog refinement
Conducting technical and functional spikes
Working with AI agents to accelerate feature work, test generation, debugging, and codebase exploration — and applying careful review to everything they produce
Improving the team’s shared AI leverage: refining context files, writing lessons from things you learned, and sharing workflows that work
The work is varied and challenging. You might be surprised by the depth and intricacies of various flows implementing the diverse business logic used by thousands of different gyms and wellness businesses.
What’s the tech stack?
Our main web application is built on Zend Framework, with server-side rendered templates, MySQL for data persistence, and jQuery for frontend interaction. We are increasingly moving towards an API-first design and making heavy use of Symfony components within our existing ecosystem. Our mobile app is built with Flutter for cross-platform deployment.
AI tooling is a first-class part of our stack. Engineers work with Claude Code backed by internal MCP servers that connect our agents to Jira, our database, error monitoring, and our legacy framework internals, plus shared skills and slash commands for common workflows. We treat this tooling like any other part of the platform: we invest in it, we measure it, and we keep improving it.
How we think about AI
We use AI as an assistant and an accelerant, not a replacement for engineering judgment. In practice, that means:
You own what ships. AI can draft the code, the tests, and the ticket — you are accountable for correctness, quality, and fit. Human review is non-negotiable here.
Leverage is a skill we invest in. We maintain internal MCP integrations, skills, and context files, and we expect engineers to both use them and make them better.
We are honest about the limits. AI output gets things wrong, gets verbose, and works better in some parts of our stack than others. We want people who know when to lean on it and when to think for themselves.
If you love the craft of software and see AI as a way to do more of the interesting work rather than a threat to it, you will fit right in.
Requirements
6+ years of professional software development experience
4+ years of experience with PHP-stack development
Demonstrated ability to make an impact as a senior contributor on an engineering team
Hands-on experience integrating AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) into a real development workflow, and the judgment to critically review, validate, and own their output
Proficient with at least one popular PHP MVC framework (e.g., Symfony, Laravel)
Strong understanding of client-side technologies for the modern web
Familiarity with classic JS libraries such as jQuery and jQuery UI
Familiarity with Vue JS and Tailwind CSS
Ability to design efficient database schemas and queries for MySQL
Intimate familiarity with software development best practices and design patterns — including where AI-generated code tends to violate them
Excellent written and verbal communication in English
