Community Manager for Thriving Startup Community

MicroConf is the largest online and in-person community for founders of bootstrapped software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies. 

We are looking for a dynamic Community Manager to join our small, fast-moving team, who will be responsible for advancing our brand through:

  • Community cultivation, development, moderation, and communications.

  • Customer and community support management

  • Periodic special projects

Under the direction of MicroConf’s leadership team, you will support, nurture, and grow our community of founders.

You will be responsible for various administrative duties, online Slack community moderation and engagement, email and blog communication with founders, onboarding new founders, social media, and more.

Responsibilities:

Membership Management

  • Own the membership application, approval, and invitation process.

  • Manage all membership-related processes and assets, including applications, approvals, onboarding, offboarding, payment systems, platforms, documentation, and resources. 

  • Handle member support and account management requests. 

Member Development

  • Improve and manage onboarding and welcoming processes for new members

  • Understand the personality and thought leadership assets available within the community and nurture their participation to the benefit of all members

  • Implement the MicroConf Connect Ambassador program by recruiting and cultivating members into leadership roles.

Programming

  • In collaboration with our events team, oversee digital event programming to fit the needs of the memberships, including:

    • New Member Welcome Sessions

    • Founder Networking Events

    • Monthly Subject Matter Expert Office Hours

  • Manage our Mastermind Program, which analyzes, matches, and provides education and enrichment opportunities for 75+ masterminds per year. 

  • Identify and implement creative member engagement opportunities.

  • Create and manage our Membership Perk’s program. 

Moderation

  • Enforce our community rules, codes of conduct, and standards to ensure that the community reflects the MicroConf values and that our members feel safe and respected at all times.

  • Provide constructive feedback to community members who are not abiding by established guidelines

Communications

  • Oversee all community-focused communications, including newsletters, social media, and inter-community communications focused on member enrichment

  • Engage in conversations on social media, mostly Twitter & LinkedIn, including amplifying posts of our community members

  • Handle community-focused support requests and monitor forums for support-based needs 

Other Responsibilities

  • Identify and manage external vendors, freelancers, and contractors to supplement program needs

  • Work closely with your manager to handle administrative tasks and special projects as needed

  • Proactively make and implement recommendations on how to improve our community and better serve our founders

  • Be available to our team as a second-tier line of help for unusual problems when needed

  • Explore and implement new projects and products that you think will enhance what MicroConf has to offer

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in high-speed environments with a focus on community, communications, and social media.

  • Experience moderating online communities.

  • A high level of familiarity with early-stage startups and founders. Bonus points if you are already a member of the MicroConf Community.

  • Strong interest in working within the startup and venture capital space.

  • Skill working with online tools such as GSuite, Zapier, and web-based CRM.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously and strong attention to detail - a must-have!

  • We’re a small team, so you may be expected to take the lead on a project, learn a new skill, or do something you may not be familiar with but are interested in trying out. 

  • Excellent written communication skills. Ability to adopt the voice of our brand.

  • (Bonus) Experience migrating an online community from one platform to another.

  • Based in the US, Canada, or Western Europe and willing to have hours of overlap with US Pacific Time.

  • Design Solutions (Figma or Canva): ⭐

This is a full-time, remote position with occasional in-person gatherings.
