Full-Stack Platform Engineer

Who We Are

Every organization runs on intelligence: years of accumulated knowledge, decisions, and context. As AI takes on more of that work, companies face a choice: rent that intelligence from vendors who keep the data, the context, and the results, or own it.

OpenTeams exists to make ownership possible.

Founded by Travis Oliphant, creator of NumPy and SciPy, and built by people with deep roots across the open-source ecosystem, including NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch, and Jupyter, we help enterprises and governments build AI they control, govern, and evolve themselves.

If that sounds like your kind of work, we'd like to meet you.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Full-Stack Platform Engineer to build both sides of an AI platform — the API surface other teams build on, and the interfaces analysts use directly.

The API comes first: platform capabilities are consumed through documented interfaces by analysts, internal teams, and partner organizations. If those interfaces are unstable or hard to reason about, adoption stalls regardless of backend capabilities.

On the backend, you’ll build API-first services for workflow orchestration, data ingestion, evaluation execution, and results management, implementing identity federation and access controls. On the frontend, you’ll build analyst-facing tooling — modern web consoles and utilities for launching workflows, inspecting results, and diagnosing failures.

You’ll also produce documentation, reference implementations, and client examples that external teams need to build on the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, document, and maintain APIs for workflow orchestration, data ingestion, evaluation execution, and results management

  • Define clear, stable, and versioned interface specifications for external integrators

  • Implement brokered single sign-on and identity federation (OpenID Connect, SAML, PKI/X.509)

  • Enforce authentication, authorization, and access-control requirements across services

  • Design relational data models supporting platform APIs and workflows

  • Build analyst-facing web interfaces for launching workflows, inspecting results, and diagnosing failures

  • Develop UI for AI-specific interaction patterns: streaming output, long-running runs, prompt/configuration management, side-by-side comparisons

  • Ensure analyst-facing interfaces are built strictly on public APIs

  • Produce and maintain API documentation, integration guides, SDK examples, and workflows

  • Develop notebooks and enablement resources for data science audiences

  • Support partner organizations and Government teams integrating with platform interfaces

  • Write automated tests and maintain CI pipelines across backend and frontend code

  • Ensure dependencies are compatible with deployment environments

  • Collaborate with platform, security, infrastructure, and ML engineers

Required Skills & Experience

  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

  • 5+ years of full-stack or backend engineering experience, with emphasis on API-first services

  • Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, Go, or comparable languages

  • Experience designing, documenting, versioning, and maintaining REST or GraphQL APIs

  • Working proficiency with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Svelte)

  • Familiarity with AI interface patterns (streaming responses, async job status)

  • Hands-on experience with authentication/authorization protocols (OpenID Connect, SAML, PKI/X.509)

  • Experience developing containerized applications and services

  • Experience with Git workflows, automated testing, and CI

  • Ability to write developer-facing documentation and reference implementations

  • Experience with relational databases and API-level data modeling

  • Strong written communication skills for technical users

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience building headless platforms, developer platforms, or public API products

  • Experience building UIs on top of LLMs, agents, or AI/ML services

  • Experience developing human-in-the-loop tooling

  • Familiarity with Government identity/access-management standards (CAC/PIV)

  • Experience developing Jupyter notebooks, SDK examples, or enablement materials

  • Experience delivering software for Government, defense, or regulated industries

  • Experience integrating AI/ML services via documented API contracts

  • Familiarity with role-based or attribute-based access control models

  • Familiarity with design systems or component libraries

  • Active or previously held U.S. security clearance

Don't let this one get away.
