Geospatial Web Frontend Engineer (2D/3D)

Who we are

Orcrist builds the Orcrist Intelligence Platform (OIP), a secure, Kubernetes-native product enabling geospatial intelligence across defense, law-enforcement, and enterprise missions. Deployments run in SaaS and self-hosted/on-prem (air-gapped) environments.

Role

Create high-performance 3D geospatial experiences using CesiumJS and WebGL. You’ll visualize terrain, imagery, sensor footprints, and time-based mission data for operators and analysts.

What you'll do

  • Implement CesiumJS, Maplibre components for terrain, vector overlays, point clouds, photogrammetry, and volumetric data - in a typescript/react environment

  • Develop visualization tooling for sensor footprints, tracks, geofencing, geocoding and temporal playback

  • Develop layer management systems for vector and raster data visualisation

  • Optimize rendering performance (GPU profiling, instancing, level-of-detail, culling, worker offloading)

  • Integrate data streams from PostGIS/geoprocessing services and ensure synchronization with 2D map experiences

  • Build offline/air-gapped visualization workflows including asset packaging and integrity validation

  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers on interaction patterns, accessibility, and mission readiness

  • Add telemetry, testing, and documentation; support on-call rotations for visualization services

About you

  • 5+ years frontend and 2D3D engineering with geospatial or simulation-focused products

  • Shipped 3D visualization features with demanding performance and accuracy requirements

  • Collaborated with data engineers and designers on complex geospatial UX

  • Operated in regulated or mission-critical environments (defense, aerospace, mapping)

Nice-to-haves

  • German language (B1+) and knowledge of MIL-STD-2525 symbology or NATO overlays

  • Experience with GPU compute (WebGPU, CUDA) or 3D analytics (Cesium Analytics, AGI STK)

  • Background in remote sensing, photogrammetry, or LiDAR visualization

  • Contributions to open-source visualization libraries

What we offer

  • Build state-of-the-art 2D/3D intelligence experiences used by stakeholders

  • Modern stack: CesiumJS, WebGL/WebGPU, React/TypeScript, PostGIS

  • Remote-first Germany with equipment budget, learning stipend, and mission impact

  • Collaboration with geospatial experts, data engineers, and forward-deployed teams
