Editor in Chief

  • How should we build the world’s first dedicated media brand for digital nomads and remote workers?

  • What should the “state media” arm of an internet country look like?

  • Where would you begin in developing a new global media brand without having to worry about revenue?

We’re seeking a visionary media leader to provide answers to these questions and transform SafetyWing’s content department into an ambitious media brand. The focus of your vision could be long-form or short-form writing, podcasting, newsletters, book publishing or something else entirely. We believe that great storytelling is much more important than the format.

There’s lots of flexibility in terms of the direction you choose, but what’s certain is that your innovative strategy will remix best practices from a diversity of industries and disciplines while seeking to define, serve, and provide a sense of identity for our fast-growing target audience of digital nomads and remote workers.

We currently have three core media projects:

  • Borderless (pre-launch): A website of travel guides for remote workers and digital nomads, plus tax, visa and other resources to help people navigate the challenges of a location-independence.

  • Building Remotely: A business podcast, blog and e-book for a target audience of remote founders, remote leaders, remote managers, and remote workers.

  • Plumia: The moonshot mission to build an internet country for digital nomads. Currently, a series of blog posts and live interviews focused on global mobility, borderless living, and internet countries.

đŸ’» Your responsibilities will include

  • Develop and implement a long-term vision for SafetyWing’s media department, as well as an immediate roadmap of priorities.

  • Lead and coordinate our media team of 10+ people via regular 1-on-1, project and team meetings, and communicate our department’s progress to the rest of the company.

  • Liaise with stakeholders across the company to align on goals, team growth, brand, external comms, and other aspects of a fast-growing VC-backed startup.

  • Manage editorial budgets and resources, and be the primary point of contact with external agencies and other collaborators.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A bold, creative, unconventional vision of the media department and brand they want to build at SafetyWing.

  • Clear ideas about improving SafetyWing’s existing media projects and building on them as a foundation for what comes next.

  • The ability to get others, internally and externally, aligned and excited about their vision.

  • Experience leading a team of 10+, whether in the context of a media brand, startup or another type of company.

  • An entrepreneurial and founder-type personality – working at SafetyWing is like building a micro-startup within a larger, VC-backed company.

  • Good general knowledge of the creator economy and other developments in internet culture, the future of work, and borderless living.

  • A passion and an insatiable curiosity for media, storytelling and technology.

đŸ§Ș We are looking for someone who

  • Is intellectually curious and open to new ideas.

  • Thinks for themself instead of copying others.

  • Is willing to try new things, even with the risk of failure.

  • Wants to break new ground through their work.

  • Brings an optimistic and solutions-focused lens.

  • Has strong integrity and always makes sound judgements.

Sorry, but we are not looking for:

  • Content creators – this is a senior management role in which you will develop and implement a strategy and lead other team members rather than producing content yourself.

  • Anyone seeking to build out a conventional content marketing department in a startup – we like to do things differently around here, and the goal is to build a media department rather than a content department.

  • Anyone expecting to have instructions handed down to them from company leadership – we expect a high level of autonomy from every member of our team.
