SUMMARY
You inspire a team of designers to continually raise the bar on design innovation and imagination in the area of digital creative (graphic design and interactive design) for the agency’s client base. You live, breathe, think, and conceptualize in the digital world.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
60% - Digital Design Direction
Encourage and motivate the design team to produce highly creative digital work
Provide clear/objective critiques of design work during production
Work closely with cross-functional teams to manage and deliver design assets on time, as well as champion the best possible experience for agency clients
Working closely with the workflow manager, you will delegate work to appropriate team members,
Ensure that ideas/designs are produced in a timely manner, on budget and with the degree of quality promised to the client
Participate in selection of external vendors and/or partners in conjunction with creative and production teams
Work with designers to produce high quality creative concepts that accurately reflect strategy and are appropriate for the client’s brand personality
Encourage innovative and out-of-the box creative ideas with the design team
20% - Designing
Create strategic digital design solutions for key clients
Design for best practices in user experience
Present concepts internally and externally to clients
20% - People Management
Lead a team of designers and art directors to produce the best work possible for our clients
Work with team members to set individual goals that reflect their areas of interest to serve growth in their careers and in the company moving forward
Work with Human Resources for recruitment and training of new team members
Act as a company advocate and embody Think Shift’s values of accountability, transparency, stewardship and teamwork
Identify team strengths and weaknesses. Engage in mentoring, establish training plans and staffing recommendations that align the team’s skill set to business needs and technical innovations
Perform annual employee performance appraisals, bi-weekly one-on-ones and mentor employee progress between appraisal cycles including identifying and developing top performing employees for growth opportunities
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary education and/or training in Graphic Design, UX/UI Design or a related field
10+ years of applicable design experience (strong portfolio of work required).
Work experience as either a senior designer or an art director
Supervisory/management experience
COMPETENCIES.
Functional: (technical skills)
Post-secondary education and/or training in Graphic Design, UX/UI Design or a related field
10+ years of related work experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Work experience as either a senior designer or an art director
Strong understanding of graphic design, user experience and user interface design principles
Experience with UX design strategy including sitemap and wireframe development
Strong understanding of the interactive development process
Experience in visual identity and brand development considered a bonus
Supervisory/management experience
