Market Researcher

We’re looking for an experienced Market Researcher to help define the future of Yelp with data-driven insights.

Yelp is the best source of knowledge about local businesses. At Yelp, you'll have the opportunity to have a real impact on a product that hundreds of millions of consumers trust to discover and engage with businesses in their community!

The Research team is distributed, with members in the San Francisco Bay Area, Vancouver, and Toronto. We’re looking to hire a Canada-based researcher for this position, who may be remote (Ontario) or may work from our Toronto office, located in the heart of the Central Business District. Join us and be one of the personalities that makes Yelp culture unique.

Research is a consolidated function, embedded in Product, and responsible for conducting and enabling UX research and market research across the company. Our team of 5 consists of 3 UX Researchers, an UX Operations Coordinator, and a Team Lead with a quantitative/market research background. We’re looking to grow the team’s capabilities with an experienced quantitative researcher to own the most strategic survey-based work at Yelp. This mandate will carry you across the organization, creating high visibility partnerships with Strategy, Marketing/Brand, and Product teams. The right candidate will have a proven track record as a self-starter who has created highly actionable, rigorous research to inform both Marketing and Product roadmaps. It will also be incredibly important that our Mission and Vision statements resonate with a potential new hire.

Our Team’s Mission:

Represent current and future users with rigorous and actionable research that empowers partners to confidently make decisions that will improve Yelp’s user experience and drive company success.

Our Team’s Vision:

To be an integral, cross-functional partner that fosters continual user learning and delivers trusted, data-backed insights which inform strategic business direction.

We’d love to have you apply, even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we’re looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

This opportunity is fully remote and does not require you to be located in the Toronto area. We welcome applicants from throughout Ontario.

Where You Come In:

  • Lead end-to-end research studies that help teams uncover actionable insights.

  • Own consumer brand tracking as well as ad hoc survey-based research.

  • Synthesize and communicate findings and recommendations across the company.

  • Be accountable for the output and quality of your work, as well as overall business impact.

  • Work with stakeholders, colleagues and manager to shape the research roadmaps.

  •  Champion new processes, templates and tools that enable quality and execution of the Research Mission.

What It Takes To Succeed:

  • An intrinsic love of good data: Someone who loves to get their hands dirty with data, is naturally curious, has an eye for detail, and passion for data quality.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit: A drive to do what it takes to make a big impact on big decisions. The independence to proactively identify and prioritize research, navigate the organization to get it done, and disseminate findings broadly without being asked.

  • Business acumen: The ability to anticipate partner needs and deliver relevant, actionable insights to inform, support, and dissuade business decisions.

  • Teamwork: The ability to collaborate within the Research team and across the organization, understand different points of view and navigate seemingly competing priorities in order to find common ground. The Research team sets a high standard for itself. We meet this standard by collaborating and celebrating each other every day.

  • Flexibility: A track record of solid pragmatic and creative thinking skills that showcase the ability to work within constraints and shifting schedules and priorities.

  • Experience: 4+ years of demonstrable experience in quantitative / mixed methods research, including survey design and data analysis.

We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and consider qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital or family status, veteran status, medical condition or disability.
