SEO Strategist (U.S. Only)

Apartment Therapy Media helps people live happily and healthily in their homes. Since Maxwell Ryan founded Apartment Therapy in 2004, it has become an award-winning authority of design inspiration and real-life home solutions while Kitchn has earned its place as the go-to resource for home cooks looking to plan and prep better meals for their families.  Recently, we launched Cubby (CubbyAtHome.com) as the third property in our network, focusing on parenting and life with kids at home. Together, the three sites reach over 650 million people every month across all platforms and we have more than 135 people working from across the U.S. (and internationally!), in addition to our sunny NYC office & studio.

Apartment Therapy Media is looking for a full-time SEO Strategist to join our expanding Audience Growth team. The SEO Strategist, reporting to the Director of SEO, will partner closely with the editorial teams to plan and optimize content on a wide range of home, lifestyle, food and family topics, all aimed at grabbing audiences from organic search.

The SEO Strategist's main focus will be on coming up with ideas for new search-focused content, reviewing content as it’s created and published to ensure it’s well positioned for search-engine success, and digging into data to help determine the impact of our initiatives and what new approaches we should try. Finally, the SEO Strategist will be an enthusiastic evangelist for search, helping colleagues across the company understand and get excited about the value of SEO.

Responsibilities

  • Building content-idea backlogs (covering both evergreen and seasonal topics) across all the subject areas our properties cover

  • Establishing monthly search-content lineups for at least one property, and helping out with the lineups for other properties

  • Auditing content from our archives for strong titling, solid interlinking and other SEO best practices, and prioritizing archival content for updates

  • Working directly with editors to optimize the content they’re creating, by providing guidance and tips before content is developed and offering feedback and/or edits after content is published

  • Analyzing content performance from data in Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMRush, Ahrefs and other tools, and sharing findings with editorial and other stakeholders in scheduled reports, training sessions, and in on-going, ad-hoc communication (we love Slack!)

  • Occasional hands-on revision to existing SEO content and original SEO content creation, if needed

  • Staying on top of trending search topics in our properties’ subject areas, and translating those trends into short-lead (news) ideas and long-lead plans and strategies

  • Keeping up-to-date on Google’s algorithm changes and other evolving search best-practices.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years experience as an SEO content pro, ideally guiding content for a high-volume consumer-facing publisher

  • A real flair for keyword research, gap analysis and content ideation, across a variety of lifestyle and home-life topics

  • Fluency in current SEO standards for informational content, commerce, and basic technical practices

  • Solid understanding of KPIs that matter for search success, and comfort in plowing through numbers and extracting meaningful stories from them

  • Facility with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Trends, and SEMRush (and if you know your way around Google Sheets’ search add-ons and/or Google Data Studio, all the better)

  • Terrific writing skills and understanding of our properties’ style and tone

  • Great communication skills and ability to convey search insights and recommendations to colleagues with different levels of search expertise

  • A lively curiosity for the topics our brands cover: home decor and improvement, home cooking and food culture, family life with kids, and related lifestyle topics.
