Corwin seeks an experienced publishing professional to acquire and develop professional development books and related resources in the field of K-12 mathematics and science/STEM education. This person will play a key role in the strategic shaping and support of Corwin’s prominent and esteemed Corwin Math imprint and its growing science list. Join a purposeful team of professionals committed to helping educators deliver high-quality, culturally sustaining, and socially just education to all young people. This is a full-time position and may be done remotely, with occasional travel.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Work with Publisher to strategically grow and support Corwin’s industry-leading K-12 math and science/STEM education Professional Development list by acquiring, developing, publishing, and launching a designated number of books (at least 6) and related products each year.

  • Supporting publisher with development, project management, and design of several additional books on the Math and Science/STEM list.

  • Working with established authors as well as placing emphasis on finding fresh voices and new points of view that represent the gender and racial diversity of the education field.

  • Negotiate contracts with authors once projects are approved.

  • Building close partnerships with authors and coaching them through visioning, writing, and publishing process to achieve a shared vision of their work.

  • Considering interior design and display elements and multimedia ancillaries to create best-in-class professional development books.

  • Through a variety of media (videos, newsletters, podcast, social media, virtual meetings/webinars) and in close collaboration with authors and Corwin colleagues, cultivate and sustain a close-knit community that brings value to authors, expands brand recognition, and increases the impact of the Corwin Math and science brands.

  • Stay abreast of and communicate trends, innovations, and best practices in education that inform acquisitions, sales, and marketing strategies.

  • Collaborate with Corwin editorial, marketing, and sales colleagues to grow a high-quality and profitable publishing program and meet company objectives through participation in departmental and cross-departmental meetings.

  • Represent Corwin at inter-company meetings as well as educational workshops, meetings, and conferences, both virtually and in-person. Travel is expected approximately 15% of the time.

  • Cultivate partnerships with educational organizations for the purposes of co-publishing, marketing, and distribution opportunities.

  • Lead, mentor, and manage colleagues who may include editorial assistants and interns.

Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

  • 3-4 years content development and/or publishing experience and 1+ years as an Acquisitions Editor, preferable. K-12 teaching experience will also be considered.

  • Knowledge of acquisitions, editorial, and production processes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated editorial and content development skills and experience

  • Self-directed, able to create a plan, prioritize initiatives, and both independently and within teams, complete goals to established timelines

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with multiple moving parts at the same time

  • A creative approach, you relish the ability to experiment and try new things

  • Great teammate who values collaboration and brings a willingness to learn from authors and colleagues.

Preferred Experience

  • Understanding of the K-12 field with particular knowledge of trends, innovations, and best practices in mathematics and science education with a value for educational equity for all students

  • Proven acquisitions and a network in K-12 mathematics and science education

  • Experience working in a K-12 setting as a teacher or administrator

  • Management and leadership experience
