Technical Designer

Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime".  Poppy Playtime is one of hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands.  To give a taste of our brand's popularity, Poppy Playtime was the #2 most searched term on YouTube in the last 12 months in the U.S. (only behind a recent Disney film), and Poppy Playtime has over 5 billion views on TikTok.

We are looking for a hardworkingTechnical Designer to focus on level ownership, including both geo and scripting. You will work with experienced developers to push innovation, agency, quality, and fidelity for next-gen gameplay and storytelling.

Responsibilities:

  • You will own mission development from concept to ship, collaborating with leads and directors to create unforgettable experiences that marry gameplay and narrative— stories that players experience on-the-stick through gameplay and action.

  • Work with engineering, animation, visual effects, and design teams to implement content, solve workflow issues, and develop content pipelines.

  • We believe in ownership, so the more of your aesthetic and technical vision that you can prototype with your own skills, the better.

  • We also believe in open communication and collaboration – use your skills to communicate your vision to the rest of the team and get all the departments pumped to collaborate with you!

  • You will also work with producers to plan out and prioritize your development schedule. Know what the most important parts of your design are and have plans to reduce scope if something takes longer than expected.

Qualities:

  • Have a cinematic eye! Conceptualize and pitch game systems and mechanics. Communicate clearly and visually to the Directors and the team.

  • Have ownership of your content. Once designs have been approved, the Senior Level Designer is responsible for bringing their levels and features to shipping quality.

  • Be creative. We don’t want to micromanage. Nothing makes us happier than seeing you prototype ideas we would have never conceptualized.

  • Be proactive. Don’t wait to be assigned a task – pitch concepts that you believe will make the game better and pitch them regularly.

  • Be a generalist. Learn whatever skills will help you complete your vision. From making prototype assets, to animation, VFX, mocap, audio, etc. – a designer is a versatile person. You will have stellar artists and engineers to help you, but the more you can present a singular vision to us with your prototype work, the more excited we will get about it!

  • Be responsible. You will be checking in script and level content without review. It’s your job not to break the build

Requirements & Skills:

  • 4 Plus years of experience in programming with a passion for design.

  • Strong experience building and iterating in a 3D gamespace.

  • Experience with level event and gameplay scripting.

  • Knowledge of Unreal engine a plus.

  • Knowledge of art packages such as Maya, Max, and the Adobe suite a plus.
