Senior Product Designer, Growth

Neon is an open-source company on a mission to create a cloud-native database service for every developer.

We are looking for a Senior-level Product Designer (Growth) who wants to focus on creating a friction-free developer experience. You will be responsible for designing a simple way for developers to use Postgres in their workflow.

In this role, you will:

  • Design industry-leading experiences that reduce friction for new and existing users.

  • Contribute to work across the entire team, including activation, conversion, and retention experiences.

  • Champion design within Growth (and growth in the design team). Apply design principles to growth initiatives and make progress toward larger product goals within the user experiences.

  • Work with product managers, engineering, and other partners to define the wider Growth strategy.

  • Improve craft quality for all design specializations in Neon.

  • Bring the perspective and needs of Growth design to larger design strategic projects

  • Contribute to initiatives outside growth design that improve overall design quality and capabilities.

  • Ensure all aspects of our product are easy to use and delightful

  • Participate in user research to guide product design decisions (contextual inquiry, usability testing, competitive analysis, etc.)

We are looking for someone who has

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in creating and implementing UX/UI design

  • A strong portfolio that shows how you tackle complex user problems, research and validate your assumptions and solutions and showcase the impact of your work

  • Experience with A/B testing or designing in analytical/data-driven contexts

  • Experienced with design tools (like Figma, Sketch, Invision, AdobeSuit, etc.)

  • Practical familiarity with the ecosystem of modern dev tools

  • Technical aptitude:

    • Worked closely with engineers

    • Understand software development life cycles and development flow with git

    • Used or co-created a CLI

  • Demonstrated ability to produce low-fidelity sketches on tight schedules

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize real user feedback into designs

  • Demonstrated ability to create click-through prototypes to test and validate working hypotheses with users.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of responsive design techniques for different form factors (desktop vs. mobile)

  • Solid understanding of user-centered design process and strong knowledge of user experience principles.

  • Experience applying lean UX principles with a focus on collaboration with extended team members

  • Experience iterating to improve designs based on feedback from peer reviews, demonstrations to stakeholders, and usability evaluation activities such as usability testing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including techniques to persuade and negotiate and the ability to articulate alternative approaches

  • You’re not afraid of getting technical: No prior developer tools experience is required, but you are excited to learn about databases, developer workflows, and application development

Additional Bonus

  • You are familiar with relational databases and typical developer and operational workflows around them

  • You understand developer workflows, you are accustomed to CI/CD, and you have worked with CLIs

  • You have experience in PLG-led SaaS - a proven track record of designing successful SaaS-based software products and features from scratch in the startup building dev tools or productivity tools – starting at initial research and discovery, through concept design/iteration, to completed product launch and continued improvements.

  • You thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires independent self-direction with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication
