Senior UX/UI Designer

Kraken is the technology tentacle of the Octopus Energy Group. 

Kraken Technologies is a company within Octopus Energy Group who are licensing the Kraken platform and operating model to clients across the world. Current clients are both the Octopus Energy Retail businesses around the world as well as external clients such as Good Energy, Origin, EDF, E.ON & Queensland Energy - with many more expected to join over the next few years!

We have been licensing Kraken for over 3 years now, transforming businesses by not only moving their customer base to our Kraken platform but also changing their operating model & ways of working. Throughout this time our team has been at the forefront of industry leading migrations whilst setting a new standard for what business transformation can look like. 

We're looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer to join the Kraken Tech team. We build technology to help energy and other suppliers to manage their customers and most business operations from our first-in-class platform. We’re passionate about designing simple, elegant user experiences, and using human-centred design as a source of inspiration to solve complex problems on behalf of our current customers. You'll be joining the design team, and will be working primarily with group product teams to help improve how users interact with the features and tools available or being built on Kraken.

What you'll do

  • You’ll be improving the user experience and interface of different areas of Kraken, and help shape how our users will interact with them.

  • Work day-to-day in a cross-functional team with different stakeholders (developers, PMs, users, clients) when designing new features and products.

  • Collaborate to building and maintaining our Design system, its library, documentation and patternsWork on User research, UX and UI end-to-end.

  • Share designs for feedback early & often and offer design feedback to other team members.

  • Plan and facilitate workshops, user interviews, usability testing and discovery activities to understand how we can best meet users’ needsConfidently delegate smaller tasks and projects to more junior designers, to better prioritise your time.

  • Refining and adding to our design process documentation, onboarding materials and trying out new design processes with the team where possible.

  • Communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues, successfully supporting in defining roadmaps for projects with big picture strategy

What you'll have

  • At least 4 years of professional experience designing digital products.

  • Experience working with Design Systems and component libraries.

  • High proficiency with Figma - It is our main design toolDesign processes, knowing what steps are needed and which ones can be skipped based on the specific project or problem you are working on.

  • The ability to clearly communicate and motivate design decisions to team members and stakeholdersExperience working with teams composed of designers, PMs, Front-End and Back-End developers.

  • Attention to detail when designing, being precise and ensuring something is done well rather than fast but poorly.

  • The ability to focus on user needs and knowing how to improve usability/UXA focus on accessibility and inclusion when designing components, interfaces and interactions.

  • Fluent English + more languages are beneficial.

You'll also need to a have at least a basic understanding of/experience with:

  • Considering front-end frameworks (Bootstrap, React…), HTML and CSS to be able to communicate your designs with devs and find workarounds when feasibility issues occur.

  • Participating in project stand-up meetings with developers.

  • Usage of project management software like Asana, knowledge of the agile process and organising work with tasks.

  • Knowledge of web accessibility and designing for accessibility.

  • Using analytics tools (Google Analytics, Hotjar…).

  • Performing user interviews and user testing.
