Creative Director

The last two decades have seen an explosion in new payment services - from digital wallets, mobile payments, and open banking, to Buy Now Pay Later and crypto. Great for consumers! But, incredibly complex for merchants and developers. That’s where Primer comes in.

Primer is the world's first automation platform for payments. With Primer, merchants and developers have all the underlying infrastructure and "lego blocks" they need to build the best buying experiences for their customers. Any developer can build a connection on Primer; merchants then simply 'click and connect' to the services they need to build their desired payment flows within their Primer dashboard.

Why do we need a Creative Director?

We believe we have a unique opportunity to use design and creative to drive Primer's growth. As the world's first automation platform for payments, we are not a traditional payments company and are not looking to be perceived as one - we are a disrupter brand within the market and we're creating all-new possibilities for how businesses will think about payments.

For people working in payments, we're compressing 18-month roadmaps (and wishlists) into a point-and-click experience. Months into minutes. To deliver that reality, we are obsessed with design within our product. Now, we're looking for a leader to help us share beyond our product into our external comms.

To head up all of this, we're looking for a brilliant Creative Director to join and lead our team.

Our Creative Director will build and manage our internal creative studio for all external comms, including design, video, web, print, "experiential" in-person creative, and more. You'll work closely with our web, content, product marketing, and demand generation, and talent teams to produce epic creative assets that best showcase our story to our audience of merchants, partners, candidates, and more.

You can be anywhere, although overlap with European working hours is required for this leadership role. You'll be starting as a solo operator, reporting into our Head of Marketing. You don’t need to have payments or fintech experience, we want to see your innovative and ground-breaking creative concepts from all sectors - ideally digital products rather than lifestyle - so we can see how you're able to innovatively create a brand around a non-tangible online product solution.

During your first 90 days, you'll be learning the market, the product, and meeting the customers, team, and partners to orient you as you build out your vision and plan for what creative excellence will look like at Primer.

You'll be both an operator and a leader, responsible for:

  • Hiring, managing, and leading a first-class creative team

  • Producing regular, relevant, high-quality creative, visual vision and great taste in design that galvanizes the Primer team and audience

  • Collaborating across functions to define, deliver, and excel with all their creative needs

  • Managing the creative studio's projects end-to-end including deliverables and budget

  • Working closely with the Head of Marketing to own and shape all aspects of the Primer brand

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Amazing skills in organisation and leadership and be able to build and manage strong, creative and innovative teams either from an in-house or agency position

  • A strong portfolio of successful creative projects, in particular digital projects, that you have personally worked on - we want to see good taste

  • Strong commercial instincts, and know what and how to prioritise for short and long term outcomes

  • A track record for seizing the initiative and leading by example

  • A passion for excellent design, storytelling, and media

It's not necessary, but it's a bonus to hear from you if:

  • You have past experience working in B2B, software, payments or digital online products

  • You have experience working in and building remote teams

  • You have experience in fast-growing start-up companies where you have led the brand and creative from the outset
