Staff Accountant

At a glance:

This is a Staff position on our Accounting team with an integrated role. The staff accountant helps produce internal financial statements, budgets, external deliverables to tax and audit professionals, deliverables to internal professionals, and proper expense and revenue recognition according to GAAP. The ability and desire to work directly and collaboratively with teams outside of finance and proficient technical skills will make a candidate a great addition to this team. This position is remote, but periodic travel to the pacific time zone and accommodating meetings in different US time zones is expected.

What does a Staff Accountant do at Rain the Growth Agency?

Participate in all aspects of general accounting including, but not limited to:

  • Accounting / Finance

    • Prepare complex journal entries and ledger reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses, and accruals for month and year-end close

    • Develop, improve, and implement accounting policies and procedures

    • Interact with external auditors and tax team

    • Manage Concur, T&E reporting, and corporate credit card platforms

    • Drive financial processes and compliance across bespoke and unique client facing environment

    • Manage the full life cycle for Fixed Assets

    • Analyze and execute on monthly expense recognition according to GAAP

    • Collaborate with team members to prepare, review, and enter General, Creative, and Overhead Accounts Payable, including ongoing vendor maintenance

    • Apply a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verify documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies

    • Contribute to various ad hoc projects for Controller and Accounting Managers

    • Promote a positive work environment that inspires motivation, encouragement, recognition, appreciation, respect and teamwork

  • Cross-Agency Team Collaboration

    • Interface with Creative and Production teams for accounts payable

    • Track, review, and approve invoices in tandem with cross-agency department heads

    • Actively listen to the needs of others to understand and provide accurate information or solutions in digestible and professional formats

What do we look for in a Staff Accountant at our agency?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus 2-4 years’ experience or 4+ years’ experience, respectively, with relevant training to support success in this role.

  • Proficient understanding of GAAP

  • Unclaimed Property and ASC 842 experience a bonus

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics D365 and Concur preferred

  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases including strong knowledge, comfort, and proficiency with Excel

  • Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines

  • Great attention to detail

  • Outstanding organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Self-starter with the ability to identify issues, resolve problems and follow through

  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a dynamic and constantly changing environment

  • Capable of making independent judgment calls using the core values of the team and company as guideposts

  • Desire to understand the big picture and apply a holistic agency approach to daily responsibilities
