Director, Technical Accounting

As the Director of Technical Accounting, you’ll be the technical accounting expert on the team. You'll work closely with the Accounting and FP&A teams to ensure that new accounting guidance is appropriately implemented and existing accounting treatment is in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). In this role, you will be required to assist with or own complex areas of accounting. You will spearhead new accounting implementations and challenge existing accounting treatment as necessary. The Director of Technical Accounting will become a trusted partner and work closely with the business to understand new business initiatives, review new agreements, and provide recommendations on structuring agreements to help achieve company plans. This role will report to the VP, Chief Accounting Officer and Controller.

What you’ll do

  • Research, document and help operationalize new accounting standards as applicable

  • Be a resource to the Accounting team to help research and answer accounting questions

  • Implement accounting for new transactions (e.g. new equity offerings, products or fee structures, leases, etc.)

  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure completion of applicable audit requests and aid in the research and analysis of audit issues raised

  • Build relationships with the business to be a resource of accounting knowledge, as well as review new agreements and provide recommendations as appropriate

  • Own inventory and related revenue accounting, including review of close

  • Work with and mentor the Technical Accounting team

  • Consistently identify and implement process improvements

  • Ensure accounting procedures and controls are followed and modified as we grow

  • Support management to complete special projects, ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests and other tasks

What you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, as well as CPA certification

  • 10+ years of strong accounting experience including at least 3 busy seasons in external audit with a Big 4 firm plus relevant industry experience

  • Strong experience and proficiency in US GAAP, including researching accounting topics and documenting technical memos

  • Significant Revenue Recognition accounting experience is required

  • Inventory accounting experience is a strong plus

  • Analytical skills with the ability to sort through complex issues and communicate them with various stakeholders, including those outside Accounting

  • Strong critical thinking skills and comfort challenging the status quo

  • Enthusiasm, with a commitment to exceed client expectations

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels - you enjoy a teamwork-oriented environment

The salary range for this role is $135,000-$200,000. Actual compensation packages within that range are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific location.
