Job Description:
We’re looking for a full-time Product Designer to join the growing Design team at Tailscale. You’ll work with Product and Engineering counterparts to shape the features, products and experience we build for customers.
We place tremendous value on craft and quality. We strive for excellence in everything we do — from how we operate together as a team, to shipping fine-tuned UI details that make our product great.
Tailscale is a technical secure network connectivity product, but ease of use, zero-configuration, and great user experience are some of our strongest differentiators. Our product design needs to make the secure way the easy way and helps users understand complex security, networking, and privacy concepts. Design plays a critical role in making Tailscale accessible, understandable, and trustworthy to everyone from hobbyists to seasoned professionals.
We’re an early-stage and fully-remote company and are looking for someone who is excited to collaborate closely with engineers and PMs and is comfortable working asynchronously.
Responsibilities:
Understand and turn complex problems into easy-to-understand UIs that deliver delightfully simple experiences.
Own the design process of projects end-to-end: from requirements, ideation, research, and testing, to information architecture, flows, and interactions, all the way through to guiding implementation.
Continually maintain and improve our bar for craft and quality.
Work closely with PMs and engineers to shape roadmaps and features and define long- and short-term strategies for your projects.
Work closely with engineers to make sure the shipped product is as high-quality as your concepts.
Work closely with other designers to contribute to our design system and our design processes.
Advocate for and teach Tailscale’s design principles throughout the company.
Requirements:
Strong written and verbal communication skills that allow you to contribute meaningfully to strategy and alignment.
Comfortable working collaboratively and iteratively. You actively seek feedback, are able to discern valuable feedback from noise, and are open to iterating as much as necessary. Your projects don’t end when the code is merged.
Know how to independently manage workload and deadlines.
Have experience with technical products, subjects, and information architecture.
Explore and create delightful user experiences - journey maps, wireframes, high and low fidelity prototypes, polished UI, and complex compositions in alignment with our design system and product design principles.
Experience contributing to, maintaining, and working from a design system.
Create compelling, simple, and beautiful UIs using Figma, HTML, CSS, Tailwind, and Radix.
Nice to Have:
Front-end development skills.
Experience designing native desktop and mobile apps.
As a company, we strive to maintain fair and equitable compensation practices within our team across all roles and all levels. We use San Francisco market data to establish our pay ranges.
