
Payroll Manager
Role Overview
As a Senior Payroll Manager at Temporal, you’ll be the cornerstone of the accounting team, reporting directly to the Controller. You’ll own all payroll operations in the US and play a pivotal role in establishing compliant payroll systems across new international subsidiaries (UK, Singapore, Canada, India, Australia). This is a high-impact role requiring precision, strong organizational skills, and the ability to build scalable processes from scratch.
Base Salary: $5,500 – $7,000 USD per month
Key Responsibilities
US Payroll Operations
Manage semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll cycles across multiple states
Partner with HR on compensation, benefits, and equity events (NSOs, RSUs, ISOs)
Administer payroll inputs (new hires, terminations, bonuses, commissions, relocations, LOA, etc.)
Maintain multi-state tax registrations, filings, and compliance
Oversee W-2 preparation, reconciliations, and resolution of tax notices
Act as subject matter expert for US payroll
International Payroll
Stand up compliant payroll operations in UK, Singapore, Canada, India, and Australia
Coordinate with local payroll providers, review registers, approve runs, and resolve discrepancies
Advise on statutory deductions, employer obligations, and pay frequency norms
Partner with Finance, Legal, and HR to ensure readiness for new hires
Compliance & Controls
Establish and enforce SOX-compliant internal controls
Oversee payroll audits (Workers’ Compensation, 401(k))
Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws across jurisdictions
Maintain audit readiness for IPO preparation
Accounting & Month-End Close
Prepare and post payroll journal entries; reconcile GL accounts monthly
Support annual audit (EY) with schedules and documentation
Assist with equity compensation accounting (Form 3921, ASC 718 inputs)
Systems, Automation & Process
Maintain and optimize Rippling payroll configuration
Lead automation initiatives and system integrations
Document and update payroll SOPs
Drive process improvements and special projects
What You’ll Need
8+ years of payroll experience, with 3+ years managing full-cycle US payroll independently
Deep expertise in equity compensation processing and tax implications
Strong grasp of US payroll tax compliance (multi-state, garnishments, supplemental wages)
Exposure to international payroll in at least two target countries
Experience with Rippling (required); system migration/configuration a plus
Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills for reconciliations and schedules
Audit support experience; SOX or IPO readiness exposure preferred
CPP or FPC designation
Experience with EOR-to-subsidiary transitions internationally
Familiarity with AI/automation tools applied to payroll workflows
