
Senior DevOps Engineer
Founded in 2018 and based in NYC, The Block is the leading research, analysis, and news brand in the digital asset space. The Block's team is spread across 7 time zones, covering the global cryptocurrency space 24/7.
The Block delivers deep insight into how the emerging digital assets sector interacts with traditional finance, technology, governments, and markets. We reach hundreds of thousands of technologists, financial market participants, Fortune 500 professionals, global service providers, policymakers, and more through our main website, dedicated Research Portal, podcast, and events.
You will be responsible for managing, securing, and scaling our cloud infrastructure in AWS and other services. You will also provide development support for various backend systems such as our CMS, APIs, and data pipelines.
An effective DevOps Engineer should be able to effectively communicate with the team and develop solutions that deliver stable, secure infrastructure. The ideal candidate must be able to prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
Maintain the stability and security of our production websites and systems
Build CI/CD tools to support developer lifecycle
Optimize infrastructure automation for development and staging environments
Collaborate with our engineers to build and maintain the infrastructure required for feature development
Clearly communicate development progress across the Product & Engineering team
Be creative in solving engineering problems
Work with team managers on development prioritization and career development opportunities
Contribute to the culture of quality, healthy collaboration, and leading by example
Qualifications
Strong familiarity managing cloud infrastructure in AWS or other IaaS providers (e.g. Azure, GCP)
Strong familiarity building and optimizing Docker images for size and build time
Strong familiarity managing resources with IaC tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
Experience with monitoring, alerting, logging via AWS tooling (CloudWatch)
Experience managing cloud-based CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Github Actions, Travis, Circle CI)
Experience with managing and tuning APM tools (e.g. New Relic, DataDog)
Strong familiarity with Unix / Linux operating systems and general command-line knowledge
Responds positively when receiving and giving feedback
Experience using code reviews and pair programming within the Agile Development lifecycle
5 or more years experience in DevOps or Cloud engineering
