Transcript Proofreader for English Finance/Medical/Tech Podcasts

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented Transcript Proofreader to support our production team at The Podcast Consultant (www.thepodcastconsultant.com) by ensuring the accuracy and clarity of podcast and video transcripts. In this role, you will use Turboscribe to access assigned projects shared by our team in Slack. Once inside the appropriate project, you’ll enter the editing environment, review the full transcript, and verify or correct all speaker labels as needed.

Your primary responsibility is to carefully proofread each transcript from start to finish. This includes checking for spelling, grammar, and punctuation, as well as ensuring proper formatting and accuracy of all references—such as names of authors, books, companies, and other terminology. Because many of our shows fall within finance, medical, and technology niches, you’ll be expected to apply strong contextual awareness to confirm industry-specific jargon and vocabulary are captured correctly.

After completing a transcript, you’ll notify the production team via our Slack group chat (with email available as a backup). Timely communication is important, as we need to return transcripts within 48 hours. While quick turnarounds are appreciated, we understand that life happens and aim to maintain reasonable expectations.

Skills Required

• Strong English editing and proofreading skills

• Ability to understand spoken English in a variety of accents

• Familiarity with technical terms in finance, healthcare, and investing

• Obsession with details and writing accuracy

Hours and Compensation

This is a flexible, variable-hours role ranging from 2-20 hours per week, depending on workload. You can expect to handle 5-10 transcripts weekly, with potential for increased volume over time. Work generally takes place between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. PT to align with the production team’s schedule, so some overlap will be helpful but you don’t need to work these hours exactly.

The pay rate is $0.20 per minute of audio content transcribed. This is a W9/W8 contract position. No benefits or paid time off are included.
