Communications Designer

About us

Dagster Labs, the organization behind Dagster, the open-source project, and Dagster+, simplifies data engineering. In recent years, there's been an explosion of data tools, making data stacks too complex. Dagster brings order to the chaos with a unified, data asset-oriented orchestration control plane. By centralizing data pipeline management, Dagster helps organizations efficiently navigate modern data infrastructure.

As an early-stage, well-funded startup team, we boast a proven track record of shipping open-source software with global adoption. Our culture prioritizes respectful, clear, and comprehensive communication, while fostering creativity, curiosity, effectiveness, and empathy among team members.

About the role

We're seeking a talented Communication Designer to join our dynamic team at Dagster Labs. You will be the creative force behind our visual storytelling across various platforms. You'll craft compelling designs for our website, marketing materials, and executive presentations, translating complex data concepts into visually appealing and easy-to-understand graphics. This role requires a perfect blend of creativity, technical skill, and strategic thinking to elevate our brand and effectively communicate with our audience of data engineers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Craft cohesive designs for a wide range of materials including website pages, newsletters, emails, ads, social media content, infographics, surveys, ebooks, and executive presentations.

  • Develop visually appealing graphics for trade shows, conferences, and virtual webinars.

  • Translate complex data concepts into clear, engaging visual content.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand design needs and deliver effective solutions.

  • Maintain brand consistency across all design projects.

  • Iterate on designs based on feedback from stakeholders.

  • Stay up-to-date with design trends and best practices in the tech industry.

Must-have Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in website and graphic design.

  • Mastery of design software including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in various design formats, especially presentation design.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in designing for tech or data-focused companies preferred.

  • Strong understanding of typography, color theory, and layout principles.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with motion graphics and data visualization is a plus.

If you don't meet the criteria below but are still interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team.

You belong here

We are committed to building an inclusive team and an open-source community where no one feels out of place. We know that teams with diverse backgrounds state their assumptions more explicitly, think more rigorously, and build better software. Plus, it's more fun and exciting to work with various perspectives.

You should apply to work at Dagster Labs if you want to contribute to building and strengthening a high-performing software development environment where people of all backgrounds are welcome.

We are a distributed team with offices in San Francisco, New York, and Minneapolis. We have team members all over the U.S. and are hiring fully remote candidates. Every employee is provided a remote work stipend to cover the cost of home office equipment and anything else that makes your remote work location comfortable, productive, or successful. And if you’d instead not work from home, we’ll cover the cost of a coworking or office space if you’re fully remote. This is a full-time, competitively-paid position with benefits.

The estimated annual cash salary for this role is $110,000 - $180,000.
