Design Lead

Five Jars is looking for an experienced Design Lead to drive Web and UI/UX design services within the company. You will establish new and enhance existing processes, grow the design team, contribute to the company's growth by providing project/department strategy and helping to execute it, and work with inspiring non-profit organizations as our clients. Over the past six years, we've delivered more than 100 projects for clients in various industries, including health and fitness, media, arts and culture, and NGOs. Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in Web/UI/UX Design within a software development environment (software development agency, outsourcing company, or design agency) 

  • Highly skilled in design principles, UX, and UI design, with a proven track record of leading successful projects and delivering top-notch designs, particularly in web design. Experience in creating visually appealing and user-friendly web layouts is essential for this role

  • A portfolio with design examples (such as landing pages, wireframes, mockups, products, etc)

  • Experience creating design systems

  • Experience managing and guiding a team of designers, mentorship experience within a design team

  • Capable of creating efficient design workflows, implementing design tools and technologies, and ensuring smooth collaboration within the team and across departments

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for arranging meetings with clients, understanding their needs, and building strong relationships

  • Proficient in presenting design work to clients and internal stakeholders, effectively communicating design decisions

  • Adaptable to changing project requirements and skilled at solving complex design challenges

  • Passionate about learning the latest design trends, tools, and technologies and encouraging the team to enhance their skills

  • Fluency in spoken and written English (B2/C1 level)

Responsibilities

  • Delivery (45%)

  • Utilize extensive expertise in design principles, UX, and UI to lead design projects and deliver high-quality outcomes

  • Spearhead web design projects and produce visually appealing, user-friendly web layouts

  • Develop wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts and interactions

  • Conduct user research to gain insights into user behaviors, needs, and motivations, leveraging the findings to drive design decisions and enhance user experiences

  • Define and design user interactions, including user flows, navigation models, and micro-interactions, with a focus on creating seamless and engaging experiences

  • Oversee design development for both new and existing clients, ensuring the delivery of exceptional design solutions

  • Conduct thorough discovery phases to gather requirements, understand project goals, and define design strategies

  • Present and demonstrate design team results to clients, collect valuable feedback, and incorporate necessary adjustments

  • Business Development (Pre-Sales & Marketing)  (35%)

  • Attend pre-sales meetings and conduct client interviews to gather design direction and requirements

  • Develop design strategies and accurate project estimates for new initiatives

  • Collaborate with the sales team to prepare compelling proposals

  • Analyze project requirements and propose innovative design solutions

  • Conduct thorough project estimations and provide a comprehensive scope of work reviews for the design aspects

  • Actively participate in marketing activities, including conducting research, creating informative video presentations, and providing valuable insights for blog posts

  • Represent the company from a design perspective at conferences and events, showcasing expertise and thought leadership

  • Strategy & Leadership (10%)

  • Assist leadership with developing a long-term design vision for the company spanning 1, 3, and 5 years

  • Define and implement design team objectives and strategies that align with business targets

  • Continuously research and stay updated on design trends to inform future directions

  • Identify and implement innovative designs that provide a competitive advantage

  • Take ownership of internal design services, identifying and resolving issues through effective design decisions in collaboration with the technical team

  • Management and Mentorship (10%)

  • Strategically expand and cultivate the design team, identifying talent and fostering their growth to meet evolving needs and excel in their roles

  • Effectively manage and mentor a team of designers in the future, providing guidance, support, and constructive feedback to foster their professional growth and excel in their work

  • Create comprehensive and clear documentation and policies for the design team, outlining design standards, guidelines, and best practices in an easily understandable manner

  • Encourage the design team to stay updated with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies, actively seeking professional development opportunities

  • Foster a culture of collaboration within the team and across departments to enhance productivity and synergy

  • Establish a comprehensive learning and education roadmap for the design team, ensuring their professional growth through courses, new design trends, and approaches

  • Engage in performance reviews, conduct regular one-to-one meetings, and actively support the growth of design team members
