Video Production Manager, YouTube & Platforms

Newsweek is looking for an experienced Video Production Manager, YouTube & Platforms to develop and launch several new long-form and short-form videos and series as part of multiplatform digital video strategy to grow our audience on YouTube and other digital video platforms. The primary focus of the role is growing and maintaining our YouTube channel with intentional, high-quality, stylized videos that aim to have a longer shelf life and cover a broad range of topics, from food, entertainment, animals, to economy and technology. The role will act as part skilled videographer/producer, part supervising producer - leading video production from conception to distribution, supervising producers and editors, managing production workflows, schedules and budgets - and part YouTube manager, optimizing video content for YouTube and implementing best practices for growth using data and SEO. This role combines creative vision with strategic planning, focusing on both editorial and branded video content.
The Video Production Manager, YouTube & Platforms has a proven track record of growing a YouTube channel, specifically for a media organization. This person is not afraid to come up with unique ideas and formats that will grab attention and retain audiences. They have experience managing several complex production workflows, hiring, supervising and mentoring others, and collaborating with multiple stakeholders and partners inside and outside the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Pitch, develop and launch several new long-form and short-form stylized video series that will increase audience growth and engagement on video platforms, primarily YouTube
Manage the end-to-end video production process, including scripting, shooting, producing, editing, and publishing.
Hire, supervise and mentor producers and editors, both freelance and staff
Create and manage content and production calendars and workflows to ensure a consistent and timely release of video content for YouTube and platforms
Manage the daily operations of Newsweek’s YouTube channel, ensuring content is regularly updated and optimized for search visibility, user experience, platform algorithms and overall branding.
Implement strategy to grow and maintain Newsweek’s YouTube channel
Work alongside designers to create and concept pitch/shoot/presentation decks, graphics, logos, etc for new shows
Collaborate with editorial teams to align video content with overall brand and journalistic goals
Find and implement unique ways to grow audience and revenue off-platform
Develop and manage budgets for video production projects; Allocate resources efficiently
Collaborate with multiple partners, including audience, creative and marketing so videos are reaching as many people as possible
Provide regular reports on video performance and insights to senior management; Present best practices for channel growth regularly
Generate unique ideas and formats that will capture the audience’s attention and differentiate Newsweek’s video content.
Experiment with new video formats and storytelling techniques to enhance viewer engagement and retention.
Build and maintain relationships with influencers, creators, and partners to expand reach and visibility on YouTube
Any other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the business.
Requirements
3-5+ years as a senior video producer or similar at a media organization producing video content to build audience views and engagement on YouTube and other video platforms
Proven experience of growing views and subscribers on YouTube and managing a YT channel successfully
A track record of developing new video series ideas
Passionate about YouTube; knowledge of algorithms, SEO, analytics and optimization best practices.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere, and familiarity with graphic design tools
Strong understanding of video production processes, including pre-production, production, and post-production.
A strong videographer and producer that is versatile: can shoot interviews, in the field, capture broll, edit, etc.
A keen, creative eye for what type of content will fit best on our YouTube channel
Excellent news judgement and storytelling skills with the ability to create engaging content.
Ability to manage others in high-performing environments
Expert editorial judgement and a passion for building episodic content
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once and deliver quality results with tight timelines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a great collaborator
Must be flexible and adaptable; a problem solver
Must be willing to leverage AI and other emerging tools in creative tasks to automate, generate and/or produce
Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team or crew; a self-starter
Must be willing to travel to shoot locations to film and direct
Desirables
Experience in live streaming and producing live video content for YouTube/digital platforms.
Knowledge of video sponsorships a huge plus
Graphic design, motion graphics, animation skills
Photo editing and design skills
Knowledge/experience developing video for other digital platforms
Salary range: $80,000 - $105,000
