At Praktika.ai we are on a mission to deliver efficient and engaging learning experiences for billions of students worldwide by bridging the gap between learning apps and human tutors.

We have done this by creating a fully automated language tutorship experience powered by generative AI Avatars.

After raising $30 million in Series A funding, we are growing and looking for a TTS/SST Machine Learning Engineer to join us! We are a global small team of 40 innovators who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in language learning and tutoring.

In this fast-paced environment we like independent self-starters who can work well in a team as well as unassisted and who enjoy the working environment of an early-stage startup.

What you'll do with us:

As the TTS/STT Lead, you will be the driving force behind our voice AI systems. You’ll work closely with product and educational teams to deeply understand user needs and pain points, then take full ownership of crafting robust solutions end-to-end.

• Designing and optimising TTS pipelines for emotional expression, low latency, and code-switching.

• Tailoring STT systems for educational scenarios (e.g., preserving learner errors).

• Leading the full ML lifecycle: requirements, dataset curation (outsourcing labeling as needed), model training and fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.

• Benchmarking third-party TTS/STT solutions and integrating the best options into our infrastructure.

• Running A/B tests and real-world evaluations in our production testing framework.

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, scalable voice experiences.

• Performing inference optimization and load testing in our current ML deployment stack.

• Diving deep into ML architectures to continuously push model quality and performance.
  

What we’re Looking For from you: 

• Strong background in machine learning, NLP, speech/audio processing, and transformer architectures.

• Hands-on experience with TTS and STT technologies.

• Proven ownership of end-to-end ML product features, including both technical and product aspects.

• Proficiency in Python, with solid engineering fundamentals and experience with backend tech (async, Docker, databases, testing).

• Experience in real-time AI or latency-sensitive system
