About SpyGuy
SpyGuy is the premier ecommerce website for spy gear and counter-surveillance products like hidden cameras, GPS trackers, covert audio, bug detectors and more. Our clients include law enforcement agencies, private investigators, business owners, and everyday people who have problems that our products can help solve.
We were founded in 2014 and are a small, remote team of just 4 people and our goal is to make surveillance simple by educating our clients, matching them with the best products, and providing lifetime tech support.
Our business is currently having it’s best year ever and we’re recruiting new team members to help us get to the next phase.
Now Hiring: Content Marketing Specialist
As a content marketing specialist, your job is to teach our visitors everything we know about spy and surveillance through written content.
Tons of people are out there trying to understand the weird wide world of spying, and we want to have all the answers published right on our website and in our emails.
Don’t know anything about spy gear, or the people that are buying it? No big deal! We’ve been at this for awhile and have heard/experienced a lot over the years. We’ll teach you everything we know so you can use your awesome writing skills to make the best content in our niche.
You’ll be spending most of your time in your writing app of choice, turning our loooong list of content ideas into excellent articles. Most of these content ideas already have an outline of key bullet points, or at the very least some thoughts about what will be required, but and need to be turned into a 2,000-3,000 word article.
Some will be long, some short, but all of them will be helpful to our audience!
Ideally, you already enjoy writing and have an understanding of how to write informative, persuasive copy. Do you think maybe you think your writing can be taken to the next level with the right help? We can assist with continuing your education with online courses and ebooks we’ve purchased over the years.
We also have different subscriptions, books, and apps to help make your articles top notch - Grammarly for editing, Ahrefs and NeuralText for SEO/rankings, and multiple online copywriting courses. Those will all be used to make sure your kickass content gets as many eyeballs on it as possible.
The role is crucial because you’re responsible for bringing in new visitors via SEO and keeping our regular customers engaged with new content.
The articles you write will be repurposed for email, social media, and likely some user guides or lead magnets.
We thought about hiring a contractor, but decided we wanted someone officially on the team, with more buy-in, and to offer a full-time salary so we can get an awesome teammate.
Will you even be working 40 hours a week? We have no idea, we don’t track that information. We just want awesome content that teaches visitors something new and answers all their questions before buying.
Want to travel? This job is fully remote, and you can work it from anywhere in the world. When you scroll down a bit, you might notice that we’ll actually pay for your plane tickets.

A Day In The Life
A typical day would likely start off by putting some clothes on, making some coffee, and settling down somewhere with a great vibe! Or maybe you have kids you watch during the day and can only work nights.
That’s cool! We don’t really care as long as the quality of your work is great, you’re nice to work with, and you turn stuff in on time.
At some point in the day, we would want you to greet the team and check for any announcements or messages from the founder.
You’d likely start reviewing the content calendar to figure out what content to work on. There are already a ton of ideas, it's just a matter of picking the one that you should be working on - maybe you’ve already been writing about a similar subject and want to keep going, or need to take a break and tackle something new.
Here’s a smattering of potential blog or email ideas to choose from:

How Can I Find Out Who’s Breaking Into My Car?
How to Really Find a Hidden Camera and Bugs in Your Airbnb
How Does a Hidden Pen Recorder Work?

What’s Possible and What’s Actually Fake When It Comes to Spy Gear in Movies
We’ve got over 150 content ideas that can be shared with our readership, much of them already outlined with details. When those are all written, we have plenty more that we can come up with - it’s a pretty weird niche and people are super interested in it! Think of all the detective/spy movies and shows that are out there.
At that point, we want you to get to work writing some compelling stories and informative copy. We know our customers - why they’re buying, what they’re buying, the problems they’re going through - and we want you to hone in on all of that when you make content.
We get that writing is a process, but we’ve still got deadlines, and you need to hit them. The beginning of the week is when you’ve decided what’s due at the end of each day, and you should be sticking with that.
Once your articles are ready for review, you can assign them ClickUp to our team. We’ll do a final check together by reading it all through, running the content through Grammarly and our SEO tools to make sure it’s nice, polished, and optimized for Google’s search results page. Then, we’ll hit the publish button and get to work on something else!
Some of the content will be for emails, in which case we’ll just review it and pump it into our email marketing platform, Klaviyo, and blast it out to our customers. A super short piece of content might wind up in an Instagram post or be used in a TikTok video.
Outside of that, it’s really up to you. If you haven’t already taken all our training/books on writing, it’d be great for you to put a little work into that as it’ll make you a stronger writer.

Why You Should Work Here: Salary, Benefits, and Perks
Working for an online business like SpyGuy has some pretty great benefits:
We will pay for your relocation! If you are based in the USA and have dreamed about traveling abroad while working online, it doesn’t get much better than this. Our founder has a lot of credit card points and is willing to cover your plane tickets to your new destination.
All SpyGuy employees get 4 plane tickets per year to travel regionally. 4 one-way or 2 round-trip, it doesn’t matter to us.
We are invested in your success. We will pay for books, courses, memberships, and other resources it takes to help take you to the next level.
SpyGuy is already a popular website and brand. We’re poised to absolutely take off SEO-wise, if we can get our content creation under control. All the glory goes to you if you do a great job, and you’ll be able to point to SpyGuy’s content on your resume as something you had ownership of.
Access to all ebooks and online courses we’ve bought over the years, most of which involve running an ecommerce business, marketing, finances, product manufacturing…. we’ve got a lot of resources you can learn from.
Flexible hours. We mentioned this previously, but want to make it clear we don’t make you clock in or out at certain times.
This role pays $2,500 per month, paid on the 1st and 15th. For an idea of what that can get you while working abroad (if this is what you want), check out NomadList.
Our goal is to begin having company retreats once travel is a bit easier to figure out.
In addition, you’ll get to work directly with the founder, Allen, and have extensive exposure to the rest of us, learning how to run an e-commerce store, manufacture products, and manage a company. You’ll be able to work 100% remotely, with a small team that values flexibility, autonomy, and respects your personal time.
In fact, we encourage you to get your work done so that you can spend your time working on your skill sets, hobbies, relationships… we realize you’ve got a life you want to live!
A Few Things To Note
A video introducing yourself is a huge bonus. It helps us get to know your personality and competence way more than a text file.
Send along anything you’ve worked on that’s relevant to this listing. Content, courses you’ve taken, whatever else.
Don’t email the general SpyGuy inbox. You’ll immediately be disqualified. Just apply through Dynamite Jobs.
Years of jobs experience isn’t required for this role - for the right person with the right skills, we’re willing to overlook experience.
