Staff Backend Engineer - Runtime Team Lead

About Us:

webAI is a software company that is building a decentralized AI development platform. Our technology enables the development of powerful AI using limited amounts of data, challenging the underlying assumption that big data is the key to unlocking the full power of AI. webAI offers opportunities to join a dynamic and fast-growing team that fosters a fun and growth-oriented office culture.

We at webAI are committed to living out the core values we have put in place as the foundation on which we operate as a team. We seek individuals who exemplify the following:

  • Truth - Emphasizing transparency and honesty in every interaction and decision.

  • Ownership - Taking full responsibility for one’s actions and decisions, demonstrating commitment to the success of our clients.

  • Tenacity - Persisting in the face of challenges and setbacks, continually striving for excellence and improvement.

  • Humility - Maintaining a respectful and learning-oriented mindset, acknowledging the strengths and contributions of others.

What’s the job?

At WebAI, we’re scaling rapidly and need a Staff Golang Engineer who is passionate about building high-performance, distributed systems. If you’ve worked at scale — supporting millions of users, optimizing requests per second in real time, and enabling company growth from 50 to 200+ employees — we want you to help shape our future.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • As a key technical lead you’ll design and implement systems for both local air-gapped systems as well as customer distributed deployments. You’ll be driving new features through robust backwards compatible updates that impact all of webAI’s customers and products.

  • You’ll participate in our budding knowledge, architecture, processes and systems, contributing your experience and intuition to raise the bar for the engineering org while making technical choices accessible to product owners.

  • All of this work will directly influence the company’s ability to deliver AI-powered products and services. You will have ownership in a critical area that shapes the future of the company.

We’re looking for:

  • Deep Golang expertise gained in production systems building a product whose systems design never interrupts the user experience. You’ll be doing analysis of performance and creating resource utilization management that we’ll continually use to iterate on our product capabilities.

  • You’ll help mentor and grow the engineering team, using your expertise to help guide webAI’s technical strategy as we transition into becoming a larger company. Once you’ve gotten your footing we’ll involve you in contributing to the planning and execution of technical roadmaps so we can adapt to the changing landscape.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in product driven backend engineering, though we’re open to talking to candidates who have spent extensive time in embedded systems, platform teams, etc.

  • Strong proficiency in Go. Additional experience with Python and Rust preferred.

  • Experience with at least one messaging system such as MQTT, Kafka, Nats

  • Experience with deployment pipelines, including CI/CD processes, and the ability to adapt to and manage a custom deployment strategy tailored to our unique system architecture and runtime requirements.

  • You already know you’re a great candidate and are glad we didn’t list out the entire SDLC in our posting.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits package.

  • $200/mos Health and Wellness Stipend

  • $400/year Continuing Education Credit

  • Flexible work week

  • Free parking, for in-office employees

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Parental, Bereavement Leave

  • Supplemental Life Insurance
