About the Role:
We’re looking for an HR Manager (People Operations) to take full ownership of HR at Bushbalm. This is a newly created, hands-on role for someone who enjoys doing the work while also bringing the experience and judgment to advise leaders and managers through real-world people situations.
You’ll be the internal owner of all things HR, from employee relations and compliance, to performance management and manager support, while partnering with an external HR agency for complex or specialized matters if required. This role is ideal for someone who has been the primary HR lead in a growing company and is comfortable balancing execution with guidance.
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 CAD.
Responsibilities:
Own the full employee lifecycle including onboarding, offboarding, probation management, performance issues, and exits
Act as the first point of contact for employee relations matters, including complaints, investigations, and conflict resolution
Coach managers and leaders through performance conversations, feedback, and people-related decision making
Maintain and evolve HR policies, procedures, and employee documentation to ensure compliance and consistency
Manage benefits administration (Simply Benefits) and act as the HR liaison for payroll
Lead performance management processes including reviews, goal-setting, and development planning
Support hiring processes from an HR and compliance perspective (process, onboarding readiness, documentation)
Partner with leadership to improve manager capability, team structure, and organizational effectiveness
Work closely with an external HR agency on complex cases, legal matters, and special projects
Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, tools, and processes as the company scales
Who You Are:
6–10 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a fast-growing or scaling company
CHRP/CHRL (HRPA) or CPHR designation preferred, or equivalent practical experience
Experience acting as the primary or sole HR owner in an organization
Strong knowledge of employee relations, employment standards, and HR best practices
Comfortable advising founders and senior leaders with a practical, business-minded approach
Hands-on, organized, and detail-oriented — you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves
Confident navigating sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and sound judgment
Able to balance structure and flexibility in a fast-moving environment
Experience in consumer brands, startups, or high-growth companies is a strong asset
