Deal Origination & Investor Relationships

About CapitalPad

CapitalPad is a private equity investment group through which accredited investors invest in lower middle market private equity, one transaction at a time.

We provide equity for acquisition deals led by small investment teams known as independent sponsors. These sponsors find and lead acquisitions without first raising a traditional private equity fund. CapitalPad is not searching for companies to acquire directly. We are looking for well-structured acquisition deals led by capable sponsors where CapitalPad can invest alongside them.

The underlying businesses are generally established, profitable, and understandable, with long operating histories and durable demand. We focus on resilient, bread-and-butter industries where technology can improve the operation without eliminating the need for the service. This is private equity, not venture capital or startup investing.

The role

Your primary responsibility is to build and maintain relationships with the right independent sponsors so CapitalPad sees more potentially investable deals and stays top of mind when those sponsors have a transaction that fits. Many will not have a live deal when we first contact them, so thoughtful follow-up and long-term relationship management are just as important as the initial outreach.

A secondary responsibility is to help suitable accredited investors understand what CapitalPad is, how deal-by-deal private equity works, and whether it may be relevant to them. This is awareness and education, not high-pressure fundraising.

You will inherit active LinkedIn and outbound programs. The technical infrastructure is managed elsewhere. You will be responsible for replies, follow-ups, research, qualification, calls, relationship management, and the creative work of finding new audiences and channels worth testing. Initially, you may route qualified conversations to a CapitalPad partner. As you learn our model, you should become capable of taking initial calls, assessing basic fit, and becoming the ongoing CapitalPad contact for many sponsors.

What you will be responsible for

Sponsor and deal origination

  • Manage replies, follow-ups, scheduling, and research from existing sponsor outreach.

  • Creatively identify new sponsors, firms, communities, referral sources, and relevant groups to contact.

  • Conduct introductory calls, understand what a sponsor invests in, and determine whether CapitalPad is likely to be a useful capital partner.

  • When a sponsor has a live transaction, collect the information needed for an initial fit screen and prepare a concise internal handoff.

  • Maintain thoughtful follow-up with good sponsors who do not have a live deal, and preserve the relationship when CapitalPad passes on a particular transaction.

  • Develop relationships with lenders, attorneys, quality-of-earnings providers, fund administrators, M&A professionals, sponsor communities, and others who can repeatedly make relevant introductions.

Prospective investor awareness

  • Help identify accredited investors who may be a fit for deal-by-deal lower middle market private equity.

  • Explain what CapitalPad is and is not, without pressure, personalized recommendations, or performance promises.

  • Route appropriate people into CapitalPad's approved education and onboarding process.

CRM, systems, and reporting

  • Help build the operating system for sponsor and investor relationship management. Some pieces exist, but the full CRM structure, record standards, follow-up cadences, and reporting process still need to be developed.

  • Keep accurate records of contacts, conversations, relationship stages, next steps, and follow-up dates.

  • Make sure every worthwhile relationship has a clear next action and does not disappear into an inbox or spreadsheet.

  • Track where strong relationships and qualified deals originate, and report useful patterns and market feedback.

What success looks like

You will not be judged simply by messages sent or meetings booked. Those numbers help us understand the funnel, but the real objective is productive relationships and qualified opportunities.

Good performance means:

  • More relevant sponsors know CapitalPad and think of us when they have a suitable deal.

  • CapitalPad receives more live transactions that plausibly fit our investment criteria.

  • Good relationships are maintained over time rather than lost because the timing was not right initially. The relationships compound.

  • The CRM and follow-up process are accurate, dependable, and useful to management. Any member of the team should be able to hop in and understand the status and context of each relationship.

  • Suitable accredited investors understand CapitalPad without feeling pitched or pressured.

  • New sourcing and referral channels produce evidence of what works and what does not.

A good fit for this role

You should already have enough exposure to finance, investing, lending, or M&A to speak credibly with experienced businesspeople. You do not need to arrive as a private equity expert, but EBITDA, enterprise value, leverage, and equity needs should not be entirely new. We can teach CapitalPad's exact criteria and fill reasonable gaps.

This role is likely to fit someone who:

  • Is persistent without being annoying and can follow up while preserving the relationship.

  • Is unusually organized and believes the CRM should reflect reality.

  • Communicates in clear, professional English with a calm, concise, non-promotional style.

  • Is curious, asks useful questions, and can distinguish genuine fit from polite interest.

  • Enjoys finding creative ways to identify new audiences rather than relying on one fixed list.

  • Wants to build systems and improve a process, not merely execute a script.

  • Works well independently and does not require close supervision to maintain momentum.

  • Is willing to do both the visible and invisible work: calls, research, follow-ups, notes, data cleanup, and process improvement.

Relevant experience could come from private equity or private credit business development, deal sourcing, lower middle market investment banking, search funds or independent sponsor work, commercial lending, transaction services, financial-services sales, or a strong B2B outbound role with demonstrated financial fluency. Roughly two to five years of relevant experience may be a natural fit, but demonstrated ability matters more than a specific resume pattern.

Probably not a good fit

  • You primarily want a high-volume SDR role where success means booking as many meetings as possible.

  • Business and finance concepts are largely unfamiliar to you, and you are looking for an entry-level introduction to the industry.

  • You dislike CRM work, detailed notes, follow-up tasks, or building operational processes.

  • Your default style is aggressive, promotional, or urgency-driven.

  • You want a pure investment-underwriting role and would be frustrated by the outreach and relationship work involved.

  • You need detailed instructions for every task, regular micromanagement, or a completely finished playbook.

How the role should develop

  • First 30 days: Learn CapitalPad's positioning and criteria, take over response queues and follow-ups, keep the CRM accurate, shadow calls, and produce clean handoffs.

  • Months two and three: Begin taking sponsor calls, manage nurture relationships, source new target groups, and explain CapitalPad using approved language.

  • Months four to six: Become the primary CapitalPad contact for a meaningful group of sponsors and improve the origination system using evidence from the market.

Working at CapitalPad

CapitalPad is intentionally lean and nimble. You will work directly with the managing partners and other decision-makers rather than through layers of management.

This is not a micromanaged environment. You will have a high degree of trust and freedom in how you organize the work, along with clear accountability for follow-through, judgment, and results.

Several systems are still being built. You will have substantial responsibility for shaping the CRM, nurture process, sourcing approach, and reporting rhythm. We want someone who sees that as an opportunity, not a missing instruction manual.
