Vice President of Development

CodePath is seeking a Vice President of Development to lead development efforts in the next phase of exponential growth and impact as we transform education. As a member of CodePath’s senior leadership team, the VP of Development will develop, lead, and execute CodePath’s strategic fundraising efforts. This person will lead and further build a dynamic team of fundraising professionals equipped to effectively secure the resources needed to actualize our ambitious vision of educating 100,000 computer science students annually in the next five years.

The ideal candidate is inspired by CodePath’s ambitious vision to transform education starting with computer science, and to train engineers who will generate over $1.5T in wealth for low-income communities within the next 20 years. Additionally they bring their own deep existing relationships with funders in the tech, workforce development, and education space and have a track record of leading fundraising teams that consistently outperform.

CodePath’s work to date has been made possible by doubling to tripling the amount of funds raised year over year with $20M+ raised in 2022. Our ideal candidate has built and led teams bringing in $30M+ and is excited to do it again.

Key Activities

Strategy

  • Partner with the CEO to lead strategy, planning, and execution of fundraising strategies in alignment with CodePath’s long term strategy plan covering grants, unrestricted operating funds, project-specific funds, and growth capital from private foundations, corporations, individual donors, and government agencies.

  • Advise organizational-wide multi-year strategy and cross departmental priorities as a key member of the CEO’s Senior Leadership Team.

Relationship Management

  • Solicit, cultivate and steward CodePath’s portfolio of philanthropic funders by establishing and expanding on current relationships and fostering new donor relationships.

  • Support relationships currently owned by CodePath’s C-Suite, with special attention to those owned by the Office of the CEO.

  • Utilize strong internal relationships to develop a complete understanding of CodePath’s unique work, priorities, and opportunities for funding.

Team Leadership and Operations

  • Build out and manage an exceptional development team that is equipped to attract, qualify, and close, major gifts across a diverse portfolio of national and local funders.

  • Oversee all proposal development, funder reporting and compliance, funder and prospect research and pipeline development, prospect strategy, data capture and analytics, and executing award review and approval processes

  • Increase operational excellence of the development team by using cutting edge systems, methodologies, and tools, to drive efficient, scalable and innovative fundraising strategies.

  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure the right visibility and communication tools are in place to support team success and track ongoing development progress, including CRM best practices and usage, data tracking and metrics, and regular reporting and dashboards.

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to CodePath’s mission and values

  • 10+ years of experience in development including leading a fundraising team

  • Experience building and executing a complex long-term fundraising strategy and securing 6, 7, and 8 figure gifts from a variety of sources including foundations, corporations, individuals, and government

  • Demonstrated success in driving and implementing successful marketing and communication strategies, particularly in a nonprofit context.

  • Exemplary communication and donor development skills, both oral and written

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex programs and concepts to different donor audiences

  • Ability to succeed in a fast paced environment working with a wide variety of stakeholders, priorities, and ambitious and overlapping deadlines

  • Excellent team player with ability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues at all levels across departments and external stakeholders

  • Prior experience building efficient and high leverage fundraising teams from scratch with demonstrated experience hiring an A+ team and leveraging high quality documentation, process automation, tooling, and strategic communications.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% and as necessary, work non-traditional hours when needed, and carry out other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a fast moving, hypergrowth nonprofit or technology startup a huge plus

Pay range

$175,000—$210,000 USD
