Role:

As an MLOps Engineer at Function, you’ll play a foundational role in operationalizing the machine learning systems that power our healthcare platform. Your work will ensure that the models we develop to analyze health data are not only accurate, but also scalable, secure, and production-ready. You’ll collaborate closely with our data science, engineering, and product teams to streamline the end-to-end ML lifecycle—from experimentation to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will be meticulous in their attention to detail, self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment. As an early member of our tech team, you’re contributions will play a critical role in shaping the future of our systems as we scale from currently tens of thousands of members to millions. There is no ceiling for growth or impact in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deploy and scale LLMs on GKE/Kubernetes, ensuring high availability and efficient resource utilization.

• Developing research-level code into production-level code.

• Develop infrastructure-as-code (IaC) with Terraform to manage cloud resources efficiently.

• Implement model monitoring, logging, and observability tools to track performance, drift, and failures.

• Work on benchmarking code to optimize GPU resource allocation for cost efficiency and performance.

• Ensure security, compliance, and best practices in ML model hosting.

• Automate model versioning rollout strategies

• Support and improve ML pipelines for both model training and data handling.

Qualifications/Skills:

• 4+ years of hands-on experience architecting and operating end-to-end MLOps and ML infrastructure—specifically designing, deploying, and scaling large-language models on Kubernetes/GKE in GCP, ideally at a large-cap, AI-focused startup.

• Strong experience with GCP (Cloud Storage, Vertex AI, IAM, GKE, Compute Engine, BigQuery).

• Expertise in Kubernetes, GKE, and container orchestration for ML model deployment.

• Familiarity with model monitoring & observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).

• Hands-on experience with Terraform for cloud infrastructure automation.

• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for ML workflows (GitOps, Kubeflow Pipelines, MLflow).

• Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud ML deployments.

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experiences:

• 2+ years building and operationalizing ETL and ML pipelines on Databricks (ideally on GCP)

• Experience with Weights and Biases.

• Experience building 0-1 initiatives

• Experience in LLM fine-tuning and inference optimization (e.g., quantization, distillation).

• Proficiency in LLM model serving frameworks (TGI, VLLM, SGLANG)
