About the Team:

Join our Central Experience Design (Central XD) team at GoodNotes, focused on enabling quality and innovation at scale. We build on GoodNotes' core strength of creating visually appealing notebooks with top-notch handwriting technology. Our team's mission is to develop and maintain a robust design system that enhances the aesthetic and functional experience for our users, closely collaborating with our engineering team. You can work remotely from anywhere, with at least 2-3 hours overlap with the team, or join us in our Hong Kong or London office. Our asynchronous work culture ensures that time differences won't affect your work-life balance.

About the Role:

As a Senior Product Designer on our Central XD team, you'll shape and maintain our design system, collaborating closely with product design, engineering, and design ops teams. You will be responsible for ensuring the Goodnotes design system's quality and reliability.This role significantly impacts product scalability and consistency across all platforms, ensuring a seamless user experience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure that design system components are efficiently implemented and scalable across various platforms.

  • Maintain and enhance our cross-platform component design libraries in Figma and iterate based on user feedback.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to build components from robust design specs.

  • Engage early with feature teams to address pain points and drive system adoption.

  • Create comprehensive documentation for design system components and guidelines to facilitate ease of use and implementation by other teams.

  • Prioritise accessibility and advocate for inclusive experiences across platforms.

  • Participate in operational programs like Office Hours to engage with our design community.

The Skills You’ll Need:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience contributing to a Design System in Figma.

  • Experience designing for consumer products on Android, iOS, Web, or other platforms.

  • Proficiency in development technologies (eg. Swift)

  • Experience with version control systems like Git to manage and track changes to the design system.

  • Strong communication skills to articulate design rationale based on data.

  • Ability to balance vision with iteration to achieve the right user experience.

  • Proficiency in creating design solutions that account for technical constraints and iterative development.

  • Experience with motion systems, engineering background, or leading accessibility efforts.

  • Excellent visual design skills with an analytical mindset.

Additional Skills That Would Help:

  • Knowledge of data analysis tools and how to use them (eg. Amplitude)

  • Experience designing productivity or learning experiences.

  • Experience with framework libraries such as React, Angular, or Vue is highly beneficial, given their prevalence in modern web applications.

  • Experience in conducting and analysing A/B tests to refine and improve design effectiveness is a valuable asset.

Interview Process:

Candidates should include detailed case studies in their portfolios, demonstrating their design process and outcomes, not just final visuals.

  • An Introductory call with our talent acquisition team.

  • One-hour call with our Head of Design, including a portfolio review.

  • One-hour portfolio review with our design team and cross-functional partners.

  • 1.5-hour Thinking Together session with our design team. This session will involve real-time problem-solving exercise to assess your collaboration and technical skills in a dynamic environment.
