Managing Editor (Specialty Retail)
Great American Media Services (GAMS), a leading publisher of business-to-business magazines, websites, other digital products and events, is seeking an ambitious, forward-thinking full-time managing editor for its retail division to work closely with the editorial director on Gift Shop® Plus and Stationery Trends.
The ideal candidate will have the basics of journalism down and is comfortable in both print and online reporting. This person will have the opportunity to work across platforms building community, gathering information, editing it and presenting it in multimedia packages to the audiences. Our editors have to be able to do it all: come up with innovative story ideas, write, copy edit, proofread, take photos and build engagement online.
Our managing editors serve as thought leaders and are the driving force behind their publication’s brand, engaging readers across all platforms. This position is responsible primarily for managing and directing the content process and championing the overall content quality of the publication both in print, digitally and in person.
Responsibilities include understanding the industry covered, as well as readers’ information needs and marketing partner goals while overseeing the development of editorial content to meet these needs. Brand ambassador/managing editor will work closely with the team to deliver industry-leading content, events and other products to serve their market.
Duties include:
Developing an industry-leading editorial calendar
Managing the editorial process for a print publication, website and e-newsletters
Writing/creating content for multiple platforms (print and digital) and creating a content distribution plan to drive traffic and engage customers
Working on social media to share our content and engage with our readership and advertisers/potential advertisers
Editing all content to adhere to A.P. and GAMS house style
Consistently monitoring analytics across all platforms to continually improve audience engagement and identify areas of opportunity or improvement
Maintaining a roster of freelance contributors and managing freelancer budget
Soliciting content contributions from retailers, makers, trade shows, suppliers and others in the industry for inclusion in print and digital products
Developing and nurturing relationships with industry members (readers and marketing partners)
Facilitating events, including webinars and in-person events
Actively seeking out and coming up with new ideas and opportunities to continue to grow the brand and audience
Representing the brand at industry events
Being a team player and collaborating effectively and harmoniously with all team members throughout the organization
