Role Overview

The Senior Design & Template Specialist is responsible for template design that represents the aesthetic and voice of the Great Minds’ brand. Support, collaborate, and coordinate template design with Creative Group and Great Minds cross-functional teams and vendors. Supporting ideas generated by other teams to assist in the delivery of print and digital products. Share best practices and specifications to support products with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support ideas generated by other teams to assist in the delivery of print and digital products

  • Develop best practices with cross-functional teams

  • Develop specifications to support products with cross-functional teams

  • Stay current and/or develop expertise in Adobe software and Microsoft software

  • Evaluate and address accessibility requirements

  • Interior Template Creation:

    • Create functional and friendly templates for internal and vendor layout

    • Coordinate with teams for content, art, and digital needs

    • Coordinate with vendors to finalize production-ready templates

    • Review and respond to design and template questions during mass-production phase

    • Optimize templates to be agnostic, accessible, state-adoption savvy, XML-optimized, and translation friendly

    • Layout in-house when project scope and schedule align and project requires high level of design intervention/implementation

  • Cover Template Design and Execution:

    • Build cover templates for efficient and consistent design implementation

    • Iterate cover design across curriculum components

    • Customize design templates for state adoption design strategies

    • Coordinate with stakeholders (marketing, content, IP)

    • Produce final files, coordinate with delivery, review, approve

  • Interior Page Creation:

    • Develop templates for curriculum page types in collaboration with Creative Group and content teams for interiors, layout of exemplar documents, rounds of design review, approval process

    • Demonstrate design thinking and creative problem-solving through successful templates that integrate consistent visual strategies across product components

    • Support the development of specifications for art and page layout

Job requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related major, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years’ experience in direct design and template work

  • 3+ years’ experience implementing a creative process applied to print and digital media

  • Experience in K–12 educational publishing cover and page development a plus

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience and proficiency with current graphic design software and tools, practices, and procedures, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) Microsoft products, HTML, and others required to accomplish creation, review, and output for print and digital delivery

  • Resilience in accepting creative feedback and managing multiple inputs while being able to clearly articulate a well-thought-out point of view

  • Ability to interact with editorial and shared services teams remotely

  • Ability to anticipate the implications of artistic guidelines across varied products and media

  • Flexible, versatile nature with the willingness to prioritize efforts to align with
    organizational goals

  • Sensitivity to audience, political circumstance, market realities, and customer needs across communications

  • Intellectual curiosity and keen attention to detail

The base salary range for this position is $51,000-$60,000, however the offered salary may be higher or lower than the above range dependent on numerous factors including, but not limited to location, work experience, skills and internal equity considerations. The base salary is not inclusive of benefits or other incentives.
