Tech Lead, Laravel

Are you a Laravel expert ready to lead a remote team? Want to build impactful, AI-enhanced EdTech solutions on a cutting-edge, legacy-free stack? If so, we’d love to have you at MyEdSpace!

About MyEdSpace

At MyEdSpace, we're on a mission to connect the world's best teachers with students who need them most. We believe every child deserves access to quality education. Our platform leverages cutting-edge technology, including AI, to create scalable, interactive, and personalized learning experiences.

We're a venture-backed (fresh Series A!), fast-moving company building on a Laravel-centric stack: Laravel, FilamentPHP, Livewire, Inertia.js, Alpine.js, complemented by React.js and Vue.js on the front-end. We deploy continuously using Laravel Vapor on AWS. No legacy systems, just modern PHP and Laravel best practices.

Our Team & Way of Working:

We operate as a fully remote team distributed across multiple countries and timezones. Our culture is built on async-friendly workflows, clear communication, and a strong emphasis on individual autonomy and tangible impact. We prioritize focused work and measurable results over rigid schedules.

Your Role as Tech Lead

You'll lead and mentor a dedicated squad of 3-4 talented full-stack engineers, guiding the technical vision and execution for key product areas. You'll be hands-on, deeply involved in the day-to-day:

  • Architecture & Development: Designing and implementing robust, scalable solutions, primarily within the Laravel ecosystem (~70% focus). You'll set the standard for high-quality code and practices through hands-on coding and guidance. Collaborate with the VP of Engineer and product team on system architecture and technology choices.

  • Frontend Guidance: Overseeing and contributing to our React.js and Vue.js frontends (~30% focus), ensuring seamless integration with the backend APIs and maintaining high UX standards.

  • Mentorship: Fostering the technical growth of your team members through code reviews, pair programming, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.

  • Technical Decision Making: Collaborating closely with Product and Design teams to understand requirements, evaluate technical trade-offs, and define elegant, achievable solutions.

  • Innovation: Staying abreast of new technologies, exploring and implementing improvements, including AI/LLM integrations, to enhance our platform capabilities.

  • Operational Excellence: Championing best practices for testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and ensuring the reliability and scalability of the systems your team owns.

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

  • Expert-level knowledge of Laravel and the surrounding PHP ecosystem.

  • A pragmatic problem-solving approach combined with a strong shipping mentality and a clear focus on delivering value to customers.

  • Significant experience with modern Laravel tools: Specifically FilamentPHP, Livewire, and ideally Laravel Vapor.

  • Proven experience leading or mentoring engineers. You can guide technical direction and uplift your team.

  • Solid experience building and consuming APIs (RESTful, GraphQL).

  • Proficiency with React.js and/or Vue.js. You understand component-based architecture and state management.

  • Strong understanding of database design and querying (MySQL/PostgreSQL).

  • Experience with automated testing (PHPUnit, Pest), GitHub Actions, PHPStan, Rector and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Excellent communication skills, especially written, essential for a remote, asynchronous environment.

  • Proficiency using collaboration tools for async communication and project management (e.g., Linear, Slack, Jira, Miro, Notion).

  • Must be able to maintain significant overlap with UK working hours.

  • 5+ Years in Software Engineering or a related field.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Inertia.js and Alpine.js.

  • Familiarity with AWS services beyond Vapor (e.g., SQS, Lambda, RDS).

  • Interest or experience in the EdTech domain.

  • Contributions to open-source projects.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive salary + bonus upside.

  • Fully Remote: Work from anywhere with flexibility, provided you have significant overlap with UK timezone.

  • Impactful Mission: Build technology that directly improves educational outcomes for children globally.

  • Modern Stack & Meaningful Work: Lead with Laravel on a legacy-free codebase, tackling interesting technical challenges.

  • Growth Opportunity: Be a key technical leader in a rapidly scaling, Series A funded startup.

  • Talented Global Team: Collaborate with passionate and skilled engineers, designers, and educators in an async-friendly environment.

  • Team Meetups: Opportunity to meet the team in person in the UK (all expenses covered).

  • Latest Tools: Access to cutting-edge AI tools and productivity software to help you do your best work.

  • Our Values: Be part of a culture that values Integrity, Excellence, Learning (Love To Be Wrong), and Purposeful Innovation.

  • Transparent Application Process: We aim for an efficient process: 1. CV Screening, 2. Interview, 3. Technical Discussion/Design, 4. Final Conversation.

Don't wait, tomorrow could be too late.
