
Head of People
Payabli’s mission is to enable any software company to become a payments company through its payment infrastructure and monetization platform. Role Overview:
The Head of People is a strategic and hands-on leader who will own the full people experience from end to end—helping Payabli scale while keeping our culture strong and our operations simple. You’ll be both architect and operator: setting the vision for our People strategy while building the programs, systems, and processes that support a high-performing, distributed team.
This role blends strategy and execution—you’ll spend your time driving clarity for leaders, coaching managers, designing scalable programs, and making sure every employee interaction (from onboarding to offboarding) feels intentional.
Responsibilities:
People Strategy & Leadership
Partner with the executive team to define and execute Payabli’s People strategy spanning - talent, performance, engagement, and org design.
Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on all people-related matters.
Lead, mentor, and grow the People Ops team over time.
Build people analytics and insights that inform decisions around hiring, retention, and engagement.
People Operations Backbone
Oversee HR systems and workflows (Rippling as our HRIS/PEO, payroll, benefits, compliance, and reporting).
Ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy across all people processes.
Partner with Finance to align payroll, benefits, and compensation practices with company goals.
Employee Experience & Culture
Drive programs that reinforce Payabli’s values and make remote work feel connected.
Own engagement surveys, feedback loops, and culture-building initiatives.
Be a visible, trusted point of contact for employees at all levels.
Performance & Development
Design and manage performance cycles, OKRs, calibration, and promotion frameworks.
Coach managers to lead with clarity and accountability.
Build scalable training programs for both individual contributors and people leaders.
Compliance & Policy
Maintain compliance across multi-state employment laws
Develop and maintain company policies and handbook updates in partnership with legal.
Ensure readiness for audits, including SOC2 and other certifications.
Talent & Growth Enablement
Partner with recruiting (internal or external) to ensure a seamless candidate and hiring manager experience.
Forecast and plan for future talent needs as Payabli scales.
Support org design, workforce planning, and internal mobility.
What We’re Looking For
7–10 years of progressive HR/People Ops experience, with at least 2 years leading a People function in a growth-stage startup.
Equal parts strategic and hands-on—able to design scalable systems while rolling up your sleeves to get things done.
Strong knowledge of multi-state compliance and People Ops fundamentals.
Experienced with Rippling or similar platforms (e.g., Gusto, Justworks, BambooHR).
Exceptional communicator and relationship-builder who can influence at all levels.
Pragmatic, resourceful, and able to balance “startup scrappy” with operational excellence.
