Technical Writer

If you’re excited about:

  • Learning, explaining, and demonstrating new technology in simple and captivating ways.

  • Helping others succeed through clear communication, documentation, and examples.

  • Using your technical and writing skills to shape the course of a fast-growing company and product category.

  • Working with people who value clarity, creativity, passion, initiative, and thoughtfulness.

Then this is your opportunity to join an early-stage, fast-growing, and well-funded startup to shape the course of an entire industry.

Pinecone is pioneering search and database technology that's revolutionizing how developers build search systems. Our managed vector database provides customers with easy-to-use capabilities that until now have only been in the hands of a few tech giants. The demand for vector databases is growing incredibly fast, and it shows in our user base. We have a large audience of ML engineers, software engineers, data scientists, and technical architects who are eager to learn and build with our product.

As a technical writer at Pinecone, you will apply your technical and writing skills to help engineers discover, explore, and build with vector databases — the next generation of search infrastructure. Documentation contributes significantly to our success and our users’ success, so you will make an immediate and significant impact. You will report to the VP of Marketing and work closely with the rest of the marketing team (product marketers, developer advocates) and the technical teams (customer success, product management, engineering).

To succeed in this role, you must have the technical background to learn cutting-edge developer and ML tools quickly. You must be passionate about writing, with a penchant for clarity, accuracy, simplicity, and organization. Our team is growing fast and the customers are growing even faster, so you must be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced environment. If this sounds exciting, we want to hear from you!

Pinecone is a distributed team with offices in New York and Tel Aviv. You will be part of a world-class team from companies like Amazon, Google, Databricks, and Splunk. The company emerged from stealth in January 2021 with $10M in seed funding, led by the same legendary investor as Snowflake, Gong, and Cohesity.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain the documentation infrastructure and release process.

  • Contribute to the information architecture and user experience of the developer portal.

  • Plan and write documentation for developers, ML engineers, and technical architects of all experience levels: Technical guides, API and client references, walkthroughs, and sample apps.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product on new feature documentation.

  • Collaborate closely with customer success and developer advocates to understand user needs and address them with documentation.

  • Collect and use qualitative (eg, user research) and quantitative (eg, analytics) data to help improve the documentation content and user experience.

Requirements:

  • Experience planning, researching, writing, and editing technical documentation for developers in a startup environment.

  • Experience using and documenting SDKs, APIs, and similar tools.

  • Proficiency with static site generators, version control, managing docs as code, OpenAPI, and a docs platform such as Redocly or Readme.

  • Superb writing skills with an obsession for clarity, accuracy, and simplicity.

  • Curiosity, thoroughness, organization, enthusiasm, and self-direction.

  • Preferred but not required:

    • Experience with databases, machine learning, or search technologies.

    • Experience creating diagrams and video tutorials.
