Product Positioning Strategist

About Us

Premium Invention is a fast growing DTC home security camera brand, selling primarily into North America. Our goal is to build and deliver innovative, reliable products that give property owners real peace of mind, with a full security ecosystem. Customer feedback defines how we build more than industry trends do. We care about what customers actually need, what's missing from the market, what nobody's solving well, and we start from there. Every product decision starts with a real gap, not a trend.

Why This Role Matters

This role exists because that same philosophy needs to extend to how we communicate. We care about what's at stake, and we don't want to repeat what everyone else in the market is already saying. We want positioning built on the same foundation our products are: real insight, real answers to the doubts, real gaps in the market. You're the person who finds those gaps from real market data, and turns them into the reason why someone chooses us. You own what we say and why, and you write it yourself, not a brief for someone else to execute.

What You'll Own

Product Knowledge & Positioning

  • Develop a deep understanding of the products: specs, engineering tradeoffs, firmware capabilities, app features, hardware limitations

  • Understand the difference between features: the ones that differentiate and the ones the market over-repeats

  • Shape how every product is framed, described, and compared. Own the positioning hierarchy: what we lead with and why we say what we say

  • Decide what we don't say, and which buyers an angle is for and which ones we're willing to lose

Competitor & Market Research

  • Conduct ongoing, structured competitor research: product specs, pricing architecture, Amazon listings, landing pages, ad copy, customer reviews, support complaints

  • Study how products perform in the real world. Dig into customer reviews, support complaints, and feedback across competitors to surface the insights that shape how we position against them

  • Analyze competitor claims against their actual specs. Find the gaps between what they market and what they deliver

  • Study customer psychology and their decision patterns: what triggers their search, what they compare on, what makes them hesitate

  • Monitor pricing moves, new product launches, and industry trends. Flag and propose positioning opportunities

Messaging & Narrative Development

  • Decide the core messaging architecture for each product: primary value prop, supporting proof points, objection handlers, competitive differentiators

  • Translate technical features into what truly matters to our customers. Not "4K with AI Detection" but "the camera that's still watching when you're 200 miles away."

  • Own the psychology behind every claim across different channels: why this on the headline, what order the proof points should be in

  • Set the direction and write the positioning briefs the team executes against

Workflow Efficiency & Collaboration

  • Use AI to accelerate research, and apply human judgment and strategic thinking on top of its output

  • Support product launch planning with positioning strategy, and keep messaging consistent across every customer facing surface: headlines, ad copy, product pages

  • Work independently in a remote, async, fast moving environment with minimal supervision

This Role Is For You If

  • You have 4+ years in product or positioning work, and you're looking for a hands-on individual contributor role, not a management seat

  • You've owned or directly contributed to positioning technical or hardware products, something where the spec level truth mattered to the buyer

  • You understand why certain marketing angles sell and what's at stake for the customer

  • You're driven to understand why customers buy. You go find the data yourself rather than waiting to be handed it, and you come back with your own insights

  • You make the call and commit. You can leave out good features to go all in on the one that matters

  • Owning the full scope from strategy through execution excites you rather than overwhelms you. You don't just write the strategy, you write the headline

  • You use AI to maximize work efficiency but you think in systems, and you apply strategic thinking on top of AI first drafts

Bonus If

  • You have written conversion focused copy across landing pages, product descriptions, email campaigns, or paid ad angles

  • You know CRO. You can tell whether an underperforming page is a positioning problem or a mechanics problem, and you treat testing as a way to validate a positioning bet, not a replacement for making one

This Role Is Not

  • A traditional long form content writing role

  • A social media management role

  • A generalist marketing role

  • A brand identity or visual design role

  • A growth or performance marketing role. We have a growth team. You decide the angle they amplify, you don't run the ads or optimize the funnels

  • A role where strategy and execution are separate. Here, they're the same person

A Note on Pace This is a build role on an expanding product line, fast moving, with a new technical category to get fluent in quickly. It's a fit if you love going deep on a product and owning the answer, not if you're looking for a quiet seat to coast in.

If you understand products deeply, position them strategically, research obsessively, and communicate with precision, we'd like to talk.
