Head of Design

About Us

Red Cell Partners is an incubation firm building and investing in rapidly scalable technology-led companies in healthcare, cyber, and national security. United by a shared sense of duty and belief in innovation, Red Cell develops powerful tools to address our Nation’s most pressing problems.

About the Role

We are seeking a Head of Design to lead and execute product design across Red Cell and its portfolio companies. This is a hands-on role for a design leader who thrives in ambiguity, operates across the full startup lifecycle, and is equally comfortable drafting early concepts and building scalable design systems.

Product design at Red Cell is a core operating capability that shapes products, companies, and brands from inception through growth. You will be both a design operator and leader—setting direction while actively doing the work.

This role will also dedicate up to 25% of time to supporting Marketing, Brand, and Communications in web development efforts for Red Cell Partners and incubation companies’ digital presence.

Location: Remote, with ~10% travel for bi-annual All Hands and other events.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with founders, product, engineering, and leadership to translate ambiguous problem spaces into clear design direction

  • Build early concepts and prototypes to test ideas quickly and inform strategy

  • Create and own design concepts for UX across web, mobile, agents, wearables, and emerging modalities

  • Design and ship high-quality products and improvements from concept to high-fidelity visuals

  • Personally deliver across UX/UI, prototypes, brand systems, and storytelling

  • Collaborate with Marketing to implement style and branding elements into user experiences

  • Establish lightweight frameworks, standards, and patterns that enable speed without bureaucracy

  • Define how design scales as companies mature—from scrappy builds to durable systems

  • Navigate unclear requirements and evolving priorities with confidence, balancing speed and quality

What We’re Looking For

  • 12+ years of experience in product, UX, and front-end design, including leadership roles in high-growth startups or scale-ups

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI, or related field

  • Strong understanding of AI fundamentals and their application in product experiences

  • Knowledge of front-end development languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

  • Expert Figma skills (component libraries, auto-layout, variants, prototyping, design tokens)

  • Deep understanding of responsive, mobile-first design

  • Success designing across multiple phases of company growth

  • Exceptional craft in UX, visual design, systems thinking, and storytelling

  • Strong product intuition connecting user needs, business goals, and technical constraints

  • Proven ability to develop transformational innovation strategies and “north star” product visions

You Might Thrive in This Role If You

  • Are a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and builds clarity where none exists

  • Can frame strong rationales for design decisions and persuade peers and executives

  • Are a systems thinker who sees the big picture and interconnections

  • Are passionate about creating intuitive user experiences that resonate with users

  • Enjoy using AI tools to accelerate development and experimenting with new technologies

Compensation

  • Base salary: $200,000–$250,000 plus bonus (based on experience, skills, and other factors)

Red Cell Partners Benefits

  • Career track opportunities with rapid advancement potential

  • 100% employer-paid healthcare (medical, dental, vision) for you and your family

  • Paid maternity/paternity leave (14 weeks at normal pay)

  • Unlimited PTO with approval

  • Professional development and continued learning opportunities

  • Optional 401K, FSA, and equity incentives

  • Mental health benefits via Tara Mind

  • Cost-effective GLP-1 solutions via Crux

Equal Opportunity

Red Cell Partners is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are based on merit, qualifications, and business needs. We prohibit discrimination based on race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability.

This role is ideal for a design leader who thrives at the intersection of product design, brand systems, and startup growth, with the ability to shape both early-stage concepts and scalable frameworks.

Don't wait, tomorrow could be too late.
