FRONTEND ENGINEER

About the Role:

Our user interface is a critical part of our business. The ability to provide a seamless, responsive, and intuitive experience for our customers is essential to our success. Our frontend team develops and maintains the systems that allow us to be flexible and effective in presenting our products and services. As we grow, we need to keep up with the increasing complexity of our business and continually improve our user experience.

What You'll Be Responsible For:

• Develop features and improvements to the Scentbird product's frontend in a secure, well-tested, and performant way

• Collaborate with Product Management, UX/UI designers, and backend developers to maintain a high bar for quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment

• Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance from a frontend perspective

• Solve technical problems of moderate scope and complexity related to web applications

• Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment

• Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review

• Recognize impediments to our efficiency as a team ("technical debt"), propose and implement solutions

• Represent Scentbird and its values in public communication around specific projects and community contributions

• Confidently ship small features and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members

• Collaborate with the team on larger projects

• Work on improving the user interface of our website and internal tools used by our CS and Ops teams

What You'll Need to Have:

• Significant professional experience with JavaScript and React (our primary frontend framework), 5+ years experience

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript

• Experience with modern build tools such as Webpack, Turbo, and esbuild

• Solid understanding of CSS and experience with Tailwind CSS

• Familiarity with GraphQL and Apollo Client

• Experience with server-side rendering (SSR) concepts and implementations

• Proficiency in HTML5 and responsive design principles

• Experience with state management in React applications

• Familiarity with testing frameworks, particularly Jest and React Testing Library

• Experience with version control systems, specifically Git

• Knowledge of CI/CD processes and tools

• Comfort working in a monorepo structure using pnpm as a package manager

• Experience with code quality tools such as ESLint and Stylelint

• Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices

• Understanding of performance optimization techniques for web applications

• Experience with cross-browser compatibility issues and their solutions

• Comfort working in an agile, iterative software development process

• Familiarity with Node.js and server-side JavaScript

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Fastify or similar server frameworks

• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker

• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Sentry)

• Experience with internationalization (i18n) in web applications

• Knowledge of SEO best practices for single-page applications
