Senior SEO Strategist - Remote (Work from Home)
Who We Are
StubGroup is a remote digital marketing agency that has helped SMBs grow for nearly 15 years through strong marketing strategy and execution. We are also a Premier Google Partner, and we work with businesses across local/home services, professional services, lead-generation SMBs, and ecommerce.
We care about doing thoughtful, high-quality work that actually helps clients grow. We are not interested in checkbox SEO or templated deliverables. We want people who take ownership, think clearly, and care about results.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Senior SEO Strategist to own strategy and execution across a portfolio of client accounts.
This is a senior, hands-on role. You will not just audit websites, make recommendations, and hand work off to others. You will be expected to think strategically, prioritize well, and directly do a meaningful share of the work.
You’ll own SEO strategy and execution for your clients across technical SEO, on-page SEO, local SEO, content, and broader organic growth initiatives. In some cases, you’ll coordinate with client developers or other external resources, but overall, you will be the primary SEO owner responsible for doing excellent work and driving strong outcomes.
Our account and project managers handle routine client communication, so your focus is the SEO work itself. You’ll step into client conversations when strategic depth is needed, when an issue needs to be addressed clearly, or when your expertise can help support an SEO upsell opportunity.
We also want someone who is eager to embrace AI in practical, thoughtful ways, who is actively experimenting with AI tools, rethinking workflows, and finding ways to do better work more efficiently. Strong SEO fundamentals matter most, but you should already be using AI to improve parts of your workflow without sacrificing quality or judgment.
This is not a role for someone who was great at SEO five years ago and stopped evolving. If you get genuinely curious when Google changes something, and you've been incorporating AI into your SEO practice in meaningful ways, we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
Own SEO strategy and execution across an assigned portfolio of client accounts
Develop and execute SEO plans spanning technical, on-page, local, content, and authority-building strategy
Conduct keyword research, site audits, competitor analysis, content audits, and opportunity analysis
Directly implement a meaningful share of SEO work inside sites, CMSs, and related tools
Collaborate with client developers or other resources when implementation needs to be delegated
Own SEO content planning and production, whether through your own work or through a thoughtful mix of AI assistance and approved outside support
Rewrite and improve page titles, meta descriptions, headings, on-page copy, internal linking, and other core SEO elements
Identify technical issues related to crawling, indexation, site structure, schema, site performance, migrations, and related areas
Track performance, analyze results, and communicate recommendations clearly to internal stakeholders
Support upsell conversations for current clients when your expertise can help uncover or explain SEO opportunities
Stay current on SEO developments, search behavior changes, and useful AI applications for SEO work
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of hands-on SEO experience in an agency or multi-client environment
Proven ability to own SEO strategy and execution across multiple client accounts
Strong track record of improving SEO performance through sound strategy and solid execution
Deep comfort with GA4, Google Search Console, Ahrefs or Semrush, Screaming Frog, and similar platforms
Strong technical SEO ability, including confidence with audits, indexation, site structure, internal linking, schema, and implementation planning
Strong experience with direct SEO execution, not just recommendations
Strong written communication skills and the ability to improve content with clarity and precision
Agency-tested judgment: you can prioritize well, work independently, and manage competing account needs without constant oversight
Thoughtful, practical use of AI in your SEO workflow, with the judgment to know when to trust it and when not to
Experience across local SEO, lead-gen SEO, and ecommerce SEO is strongly preferred
Comfort working remotely and primarily during U.S. business hours
What We Offer
Fully remote, work-from-home role
Unlimited PTO
$85,000–$105,000/year, based on experience
Real ownership over your client work
A team that values high standards, thoughtful strategy, caring for our clients, and doing work that actually matters
How to Apply
Email the following to john+seo@stubgroup.com:
Your resume
A brief note, in 3–5 sentences, explaining one specific way AI has improved your SEO workflow in the past year. Tell us what AI helped you do, what you still handled manually, and where your judgment changed the output.
A short project: choose any publicly accessible webpage and submit:
A brief SEO audit covering what’s working and what is not
A rewritten title tag, meta description, and H1
A short explanation of how you used AI in the process and what judgment calls you made yourself
This exercise should take roughly 30–60 minutes. We are not looking for a polished presentation. We want to understand how you think, how you write, and how you use AI without outsourcing your judgment.
We read every application. We will not consider applications that skip the project.
