With its fast-growing subscribership, The Lever is building a news organization devoted to holding power accountable.

The Position:

The Lever is seeking a content creator and producer to utilize the news organization’s print and audio reporting to create engaging multimedia content for social media and other channels. The right candidate will have a keen sense of how to best amplify The Lever’s work and build the organization’s social media following. The right candidate will be experienced and passionate about immersing themselves in the developing fields of email newsletters and reader-supported media.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Image selection and design for daily reported stories.

  • Content development and production for marketing and promotional purposes (podcast video, social videos, social graphics, infographics, marketing images, and audio clips).

    • This work will require graphic design, video editing, and audio editing.

  • Management and growth of The Lever’s YouTube presence.

  • Posting on other social media platforms as part of a team.

  • Live virtual event production and support (currently utilizing Zoom).

Qualifications:

  • At least three to four years of experience working in digital media production.

  • Proficiency using graphic design and video editing tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) and Canva.

  • Familiarity with Descript and Riverside.

  • Experience managing social media accounts, particularly YouTube.

  • Experience in the standard elements of website content management. We use Ghost CMS, which is comparable to WordPress, Squarespace, and Substack. Having at least some experience working with HTML and CSS will be very helpful.

  • Aptitude in synthesizing and communicating complex, highly scrutinized matters.

  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills with the ability to balance the rapidly shifting needs of a daily newsroom.

  • Comfort and proficiency in operating independently while also working in harmony with a small remote team.

  • Commitment to The Lever’s subscriber-supported model and approach to accountability journalism.

  • The passion, imagination, and ambition needed to build a transformative news organization.
